Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Progress

The MC SS is one of the cool high school cars of my era. Your parents had money if they bought you one of those. Two people had them in my class. One was white, and one was black.

Take care of it. It is truly one of the classics from the 80's.

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Progress

Well, the actual car gets painted today (monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday) but we've got most of the parts. I'm just gonna start using this thread for updates instead of posting a new one all the time though

Some of the powder coating detail:

Every single trim piece that was blacked out and not cleared has been powder coated, they all came out really great too. Hopefully it'll be as durable as I've heard

Some of the engine rebuild:

Hopefully the air-gap intake will give me an excuse to splurge on the Goodmark 2" steel cowl hood

Some of the head porting:

Let me know what you guys think

Buddy, do you want a brother? Your parents can adopt me no problem! What an awesome project... and awesome iron in the garage! The Monte has such great lines... I'd never really noticed the second curve in the rear fenders before. Can't wait to see more pics... keep us updated as it goes along!

Oh, and to let you know. I've started collecting money for a V-Tech sticker for the MC.

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Progress

Looks good so far! It must be nice to see progress coming along rapidly now...as you get the new/refinished parts onto the car, rather than taking the old ones off. Keep the updates coming!

Haha, yeah that's one of the big reasons that I like this generation Monte Carlo so much, great lines on the hood and the panels. Even the rear deck lid has a little crease in it. It's not a typical '80s square box that gets your from a to b.

and lol, I'm gonna get a giant dragon decal to put on the hood and some Japanese letters that I don't know what they mean but boy they sure look cool!

Holy crap! As someone with no patience and very little mechanical inclination, I admire the hell out of what you are doing with this car. I have to say that this car looked like a junk yard basket case on that flatbed truck, but you are makin' it great again. Bringing old Chevies back from oblivion certainly earns my respect!

Well it wasn't as bad in the beginning as it was on the flatbed, I guess when you take off almost every part that isn't welded on then it looks worse haha

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Progress (Updated July 20th)

Some more pictures from the body shop today:

Sitting in the paint booth:

Shot with sealer:

Basecoat:

Then he put on two coats of clear but I didn't get to stay long enough to get some shots of that. BUT on the plus side we've got a flatbed scheduled for tomorrow around noon for pick up!

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Progress (Updated July 20th)

We had to wait about 40 minutes for the heavy rain and hail to stop but we got it home today!

This picture made me realize how many palm trees we have in our neighourhood, damn!

It's a REALLY tight fit in the garage, haha. We need to get a different garage door and then we'll be good to go.

The lift lets you get some cool pictures though:

Looks great rmodys. Does seeing some more tangible progress get you a bit more impatient? I know there is still a bit of work to go, but if I was that close I would be tempted to rush in.

Haha, I'm already planning out how to get all of the rear-end stuff back on.

BUT the Chevelle won't fit under the lift and I'm a little bit afraid of backing my dad's $48,000 car out of the garage considering it has a big cam (loping) and it's a four speed where the car I drive the most is a Jeep with an automatic so I don't think I'll be doing work during the week for a while. It'll be nice to walk out in the garage and see it taunting me, though.
