Katrina Flood Car in Germany

http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-525-i-US-Mode...QQcmdZViewItem

Translation: US model 2006 BMW 525i in beautiful condition. Imported from USA and has Louisiana Certificate of Title. Vehicle is accident free, however it has sat under water and is not driveable. There is no key so there is no way to read the mileage, however they are low since there is very little wear. Very well-equipped 3 liter machine. Vehicle is sold as is with no warranty, blah, blah, blah.

Kinda funny where flood cars end up.

Haha, yeah. But seriously, it must have been in some clean water. There is no way it could have sat in the crap that New Orleans sat in for so long and still come out this clean.

I'm sure it was on a dealer lot and may have only been in a few inches of water. When something like that happens any vehicle in any abnormal amount of water is an insurance claim.

It had to be high enough to mess up the motor- it doesn't run. I'm surprised nobody has bid on it yet!

Re: Katrina Flood Car in Germany

I doubt highly it's a dealer car. I use the city's only BMW dealer (Peake BMW) sometimes and to my knowledge their facilities only received wind damage from the storm. That area had very little, if any flooding, but the whole area out by the airport got some hellatious wind damage. Plus, the dealer would have still had keys for it.

The fact that there's no keys is the biggest sign that it was an insurance pickup. Many people settled claims while living out-of-state, and I doubt they were going to fed-ex a set of car keys to their agent. State Farm picked my F150 up and I never gave keys to anybody. I lived very close to the second break on the London Avenue Canal, and the rushing water not only pushed my house off its piers, but pushed one of my neighbors cars into my dining room window!

For at least six months after the storm, you'd see convoys of flatbed Topkicks and Isuzus and such with a flood car on the back and usually several more in tow. An insurance adjuster told me, off the record, that most flood cars were likely to end up in Latin America or other 3rd world places.

Oh and the easiest way to spot a former flood car.... look for rusted areas on the seat runner tracks.

That was a tip from my insurance adjuster.

Re: Katrina Flood Car in Germany

A guy I know bought a Katrina flood car, a '95 Camaro V6. It had no keys, and it didn't run, but it only had the dirty water up to the rockers and a broken rear glass that let rain water into the interior. It's now a shell with a roll cage waiting to be rebuilt with an LS2 that came out of a crushed Corvette from Mississippi and lots of custom work.

Re: Katrina Flood Car in Germany

Not a chance in hell I'd buy a car that I even thought was in Orleans or Jefferson Parish in August-September of 2005.

Just as a side note...after everyone evacuated to Baton Rouge and got their insurance checks, you coudn't find a car in town for a while. I had friends that couldn't find a new Trailblazer in the area. I have never seen used vehicle lots so empty before. Even the undesirable cars were getting snapped up, pretty much ending the employee discount for Louisiana a little early.

A toyota dealership got into trouble for trying to get insurance money for undamaged, unsold Echos (slow selling around here, despite the flood of evacuees with insurance checks).

Look at the steering wheel, guage cluster, gas pedal, a/c vents, and the passenger side door pocket. Sure they did a good job at cleaning most surfaces, but it still looks pretty f-ed up to me.
