Re: I think Ford invented the Autin Powers character

The character of Austin Powers was actually based on Harry Palmer, a character played by Michael Caine in a series of spy movies based on novels by Len Deighton. That's why Michael Caine was chosen as Powers' dad in the third movie.

Here's a couple of Harry Palmer trailers:

They're good films, usually described as a more realistic Bond. I own the two last ones, Bullet to Beijing and Midnight in St. Petersburg.

Of course Myers exaggerated a bit for Powers.

holy crap... best commercial ever. Ford should cut that down to 30 seconds and run it on TV... seriously, I'm not joking.

They should use the soundtrack and make it a minor meme for a few months - much more effective than Brooke Shields convincing us that the Dodge Caravan is German-engineered.

Re: I think Ford invented the Autin Powers character

If Ford do a remake it should be of this one used for Ford Europe, look at this remake a Ford fan did, sometimes I wonder if it would be cheaper to hire true Ford fans to work on the commercials that sone agencies

Re: I think Ford invented the Autin Powers character

Oh no, I still remember those from TV. This one is unsalvageable, there is only cheapness and cheese in here, nothing remotely interesting. The message is: we build cars. The viewer is bored after the first 5 seconds, and Ford used to actually air up to 1 minute segments!!!

The 1970s one at least has some interesting music.
