CNN Video: Icy roads (Cobalt Spins out, get's T-boned)

Luckily, it looks like that Cobalt had side-impact airbags:

Holy Crap. I would assume everyone is good. That was not a minor hit.

Re: CNN Video: Icy roads (Cobalt Spins out, get's T-boned)

they are doing the right thing....if that happens, don't jam on the brakes, steer into the skid and react quickly (but not forcefully). Try to drive in the dryest lane.

the Cobalt driver and that Camry driver stood on the brakes. The others over corrected. There are a lot of cars that probably start to skid but don't lose control.

Probably shouldn't have been driving so fast in the first place. That Camry driver probably needs a new pair of shorts.

People traveling to fast for conditions, always amazes me.
That was a tremendous hit indeed.

They played this a bunch of times over the weekend. The first time I saw it gradually slide to a stop, I said "man he was lucky he got it stopped without hitt-WHOA!".

Re: CNN Video: Icy roads (Cobalt Spins out, get's T-boned)

Ouch.

Last time I drove to Illinois (made a trip down to Ikea in Schaumburg), while I was driving back (on I94 right by the Wisconsin border), this white Sunfire 2 cars ahead of me started fishtailing. I'm in the right lane, he's in the center. He suddenly goes clear across the left lane and hits the concrete barrier. Along this barrier is a pile of snow, which the Sunfire jumps, landing on it's roof skidding along the freeway.

That was some crazy ****. It hadn't even been snowing much, just a few flurries.

Years and years of doing donuts in big empty parking lots on heavy snow falls will get you very familiar with how a car/truck handles in those types of situations. I think I would try to do a drift around that whole curve if I had the chance....eh....prolly not....

Thats the problem everywhere! I cannot tell you how many idiots I see after snow/ice storms. They all think they can cruise at regular speeds, then whamo, somebody dies! And all because they dont know enuf to slow down! I live rite near a VERY DANGEROUS strech of I65, so I usually see it all when it comes to accidents!

Re: CNN Video: Icy roads (Cobalt Spins out, get's T-boned)

Why can't people realize to slow down in that kind of weather.

Hope they all made it out.

Re: CNN Video: Icy roads (Cobalt Spins out, get's T-boned)

I sometimes think that modern car and tire technology does such a good job with increment weather that people lose the ability to stay safe. Not that I am advocating getting rid of the technology but I would be fine with getting rid of the drivers.....

It's kinda funny to watch, all the cars like toys, slipping and sliding. They really need to slow down.
