A Quick Drive: Maybach 62
![]() I just got back from a buddy's bachelor party in Vegas. While leaving my hotel (MGM) to catch a taxi to the Bellagio, I ran into an old acquaintance, who is a VC by trade, who was going from MGM to the Venetian. He remembered my penchant for cars (he let me ride in, not drive his Countach), and asked me if I wanted to drive his new car. He wouldn't tell me what it was, until I saw this MASSIVE car pull up, being driven by his driver.... a Maybach 62. He let me drive it a whopping 2 blocks over to the Bellagio. Of course, you know if you'vebeen to Vegas, the fastest speed you'll ever get on the Strip in the middle of the day is about 5 mph. So I really didn't get a chance to feel and test it out. But it essentially rides like a Mercedes... just a lot more solid and a lot bigger... and FAR more luxurious. The leather, the wood, the touch and feel of everything from the dials to the seating controls to the carpet are super-luxurioius. If Cadillac expects ULS to compete with the Maybach.... it's got its work cut out for 'em. It's not going to be easy to top the Maybach.

Re: A Quick Drive: Maybach 62
I haven't been in the new Rolls or the Arnage yet, but I'm sure the Maybach is in line, if not better than those.
I saw a few of the new Phantom's cruisng around Vegas, but didn't ride in them. I like the look of the Maybach more than the new Rolls anyways. Wish I could have driven it more, but I was stillin shock... everything was a blur... But BOOOOOOY... did I ever gets some looks and smiles when I pulled up to the Bellagio in that thing!!!! ![]()

The ULS is going to hit the XJ, S-class, A8 and 7-series turf. Mark my words. Meanwhile, may I just say, Mgscuro, you're one lucky dog. |

But my gosh, when you realize what kind of super luxury cars are out there, you can really put in perspective how "unluxurious" the best of Cadillac really is. Cadillac really has a true opportunity to hit a homerun with ULS. If Cadillac targets Flying Spur, and begins competing with the S class and 7 series... then Cadillac will have a TRUE winner. But my gosh.. that Maybach... *DROOOOL* The pictures of the car you see in magazine and TV don't do the car justice. One needs to see them in person to truly appreciate it. One needs to drive one to truly experience it. It's like a fine wine. ![]()

Believe me... going from my 9-5 or my C280 is a big difference to the G6. ![]()

Re: A Quick Drive: Maybach 62
That has got to be a great experience! This reminds me of when I was in High School and College and I worked valet parking during winter and summer breaks. I drove so many wonderful cars from Ferraris, Porsches to Rolls Royces.
When I would get back in my Nissan to drive home at night it was like a smack in the face how much better cars could be and how they really were worth so much more than an average $25,000 vehicle. It also pissed me off to see how terrible GM and Ford cars were back then compared to similar German or Japanese cars. I could not believe how good Lexus was even compared to Mercedes-Benz. Nothing could touch the solidity of the German makes, and I thoroughly enjoyed them every time I got to drive/park one. Truly GM has come a long way and I can't wait until the day comes when Cadillac becomes the "World Standard" once again. Maybe in four or five years when the next generation of "Lutz touched" cars arrive? ![]()

Re: A Quick Drive: Maybach 62
Wow..that is neat, mgescuro. I've seen an Maybach & a Phantom in Las Vegas at the hotel I was staying at. And in Lake Tahoe, I have had an Enzo pass me on the left side. I got lots of pictures and videos of that of course.
That is so cool though...you actually got to drive it. How was it??? Was the ride ultra smooth?

I used to work in a Dot-com, and I was the manager of IT at Excite@home. I had teh opportunity to go to Comdex a few times and work and meet with a few VC's that had business ties with the company. That's how I met the VC. It's all just about maintaining connections over time. You never know when they will come in handy.... if only to drive their cars. ![]()
