Pontiac G8 vs Honda Accord
Hey guys, been awhile since I have posted. Probably almost a year. I started out here with a 2007 Aura XR that I traded with 47K on the odo for a 2008 Honda Accord EX I4. I fell back into the import is better trap but let me tell you I regretted doing it within the first 5K miles. I have seen posts here about how great the new Accord is and Honda in general but I am here to tell you its not all that. It was a nice package but it was not right. Nice suit but kinda empty if you know what I mean. Lots of problems. Unfortunately I spent more time at the dealer than I had to with the Saturn Aura and to be honest the Saturn dealer took better care of me.
A few highlights of Honda quality: Steering vibration unsolved, left wheel bearing out at 28K miles, rear brakes out at 29K, bad trunk rattle, door weather stripping had bad gaps on the interior pillar areas, two power steering pumps, whiney 4 banger(not very refined NVH under the hood)power seat track replaced, tires cupped early and had to be replaced at around 12K, darty steering on the Hwy really affected by road crown, glove box rattled over uneven pavement, replace front engine mount due to popping noise=lots of trips to the dealer. I have a 3 ring binder full of service receipts. So after 31k miles of this I decided to try out a rear drive vehicle and settled on a low mileage 2008 Pontiac G8(v6). Loved the looks and heard it was a handling machine. After a test drive I was sold. Car is quite, handles great, and looks awesome. No problems so far..close to 13K on the odo. GM has some good products and I for one can say that I much prefer this G8 over the Accord. Actually I will say that I even prefered my Aura XR over the Accord. I hope GM can get its act together and continue to focus on getting the message out that it does have world class cars that can compete with the imports.` The G8 is a winner in my book. Rgds, DT |

Re: Pontiac G8 vs Honda Accord
Thanks for the update. Congrats on the G8. I have 34000 miles on my 2006 LaCrosse CXS and have been very happy.
I had worn tie-rod ends replaced during an oil service at 19000 miles and a blown speaker towards the end of last year. Both replaced under warranty with good service at my local BPG dealer. The G8 is a great car. I have seen about six or so in the wild in Huntsville from G8 through GXP. I saw my first GXP last week. It was black and looked beautiful. That seems like a lot of vehicles in a short period of time. Are you buying or leasing?

Re: Pontiac G8 vs Honda Accord
Great review.
In a somewhat similar, but also unique, way, in the past 7 months I went from a '95 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham to an '08 Pontiac G6 GT coupe that turned out to be a lemon to an '09 Chevy Malibu 2LT V6 that was mostly great but just didn't agree with me totally to, just as of the 13th, an '09 Pontiac G8 GT. It's been most interesting to go from 2 Epsilon cars to a Zeta G8...well, in the lack of comparable sense, that is. Thankfully I never got to see the world of an Accord, Camry, etc. but absolutely agree with you on the G8--what a car, and finally, as my 3rd new GM vehicle in less than half a year, finally one that not only agrees with me but I love. Tank solid, rides beautifully, handles crisply, awesome and eerily silent power, decent economy, and RWD balance, all in a pretty affordable package. The V6 car is nothing to scoff at, for sure, even though the GT is the one that gets all the coverage. I know why, but still...best of luck with the G8, from someone in somewhat similar shoes ![]()

Re: Pontiac G8 vs Honda Accord
I honestly think import buyers overlook things that they wouldn't on a GM. Like the steering, do the import biased just assume that's better? I mean, sure - you could write yours off as a lemon, but it seems like too many little things - must be happening in others' Accords.

Re: Pontiac G8 vs Honda Accord
That's a pretty good clip of miles on a one year old car. Cupping tires means something is wrong in the suspension. I am amazed to see that many problems in a new car.......any new car.
