Opel sighting.........

Ok so I went to Pick-A-Part with a friend today to look for window buttons for his car. Anyway as we drove in I see this nice looking car going out which I instantly recognize as an Opel Vectra old generation. Now since Houston is so far south I often see Fiats and Opel around the Mexican Consulate but never a Vectra. Let me tell you if Saturn had this in the Early 2000’s Gm would not have lost so much to the Japanese now. Man this would have even been a great Malibu. So when we were leaving I see the car is back and sitting in the back of the lot. I took my friends phone and snapped a shot with the guy’s permission. He did not know English but said ok (I am sure he did not know what the hell I was talking about.) and he quickly moved his car once I was finished like I was going to try to rob him or something. So here she is:

Re: Opel sighting.........

That's really cool that you got a chance to see one, and take a picture of it. Yes, it would have made a great Malibu or Saturn as you said. I saw a new Holden Caprice about a year ago in Nevada, an a Nissan X-Trail in SF. It's cool seeing cars that aren't supposed to be here.

Re: Opel sighting.........

I'm sure it's a nice car and everything...much better than the Saturn L Series or previous generation malibu, but it's still very bland, like something you'd see at Hertz or Avis.

I think my favorite looking mid sizer right now is probably the Ford Fusion or Mazda 6.

That Opel looks like a late ninties/early 2000 model. It does look better than the Camry, Accord, and Mazda 626 did then. When I take it's age into consideration, it becomes more appealing.

Re: Opel sighting.........

Naw if you see it in person it is very nice looking and we are talking about if is was sold here in the early 2000's how well it would have done not now.

It would have look much like a Ford Fusion:

plus the interior would have put many others to shame:

Nice car. The eternal question lingers, "Why doesn't GM bring it's outstanding European products to the U.S.?"

Re: Opel sighting.........

Well we are finally in luck. The Astra, current Vue and the Sky are examples of us getting Euro designs and or products. We will also start getting some cool AU products by the way of Pontiac. The Aura is not really European that is why it sucks a little but still it is better than what we have gotten.

No, they're around the same size though. The X-Trail I saw didn't look anything like the Rogue sold here in the US.

Re: Opel sighting.........

I believe that the X-Trail & Rouge are 2 different vehicles. We have both up here. That car kind of looked like a last generation Jetta, only a little bigger IMHO.

Re: Opel sighting.........

The X-Trail and Rogue (not "Rouge") are platform-mates, with the Rogue being slightly longer (both overall and in the wheelbase) and sporting a mid-nineties bloated alien crossover look. IIRC, the dashboard is the same.

LOL, yeah funny that I would spell it that way, wasn't thinking when I saw the other post spelt Rouge. Knew there was something wrong though...

Re: Opel sighting.........

This is mostly because there is little "roguish" about the vehicle - it is more of a "rouge" one...
