Can you help me out a bit? What is the N54? A current engine? What size and how many HP/torque does it produce? Thanks.

It's the Twin Turbo Inline 6 that is in the 335i/xi and 535i/xi. N54 is the code name for the engine.

I actually thought it was leatherette. I don't remember Cadillac claiming it was leather anywhere. I sat in the car and drove it and it didn't appear to be/feel like real leather.

Oh, okay. I didn't know the 300hp twin turbo had DI. I'm even more impressed with Cadillac's effort to get 300hp out of their NA DI engine. Granted the displacement is 0.6 liters more than the BMW, but still impressive.

As I said though in my original post, it is heavily speculated that the N54 is underrated. Edmunds I believe it was dyno'd the 335i to have I think it was 281 WHP. While the G37 had 287 HP WHP. So you can probably safely say the N54 really produces numbers in the 330 HP range( and torque being similar as well). Would be interesting to see Cadillac Twin Turbo the 3.6 DI. See what kind of HP gains they get from it. BMW could technically claim anywhere from 80-100 HP gain( depending on how much parts it shares with the N52 which is in the 328i and the 330i making 230 HP and 255 HP). Though I think DuSpinnst is more qualified then me to answer the N54 and N52 similarities and differences.

Well I've read before that BMW engines are underrated -- maybe it's true? I thought the 08 testing was supposed to even the playing field so companies couldn't under or over rate the power? Still seems like not that much of a boost from the twin turbo's. If the 255hp does not have DI and DI is worth 10-15%, then the turbo's are only adding 40-50hp (and that assumes you're getting 330hp, not 300hp)
