I like to think of it as an "There is NOO WAY I am driving a Minivan" kind of vehicle. Which I hear weekly, even from my own wife when we went from the Safari to the Windstar.

I do like the way they put the rocker panels into the doors, but I do see the need for mud flaps.

I do advise anyone who needs a people move to go and try one, they do drive that nice.

It definitely fits that scenario. For us it's not the stigma that keeps us from minivans but the fact that they either have no style (Chrysler/Dodge) or look ungainly (Odyssey). Can someone please design an attractive minivan?! I will say the VW Routan is a stylistic improvement on the T&C/Caravan but still rather dull.

I'd say the Odyssey is pretty sporty looking for a people mover. The Dodge/Chrysler/VW triplets aren't bad looking either. I'd say the Sienna is the worst looking IMO, was never a fan of the headlights and overall bubble lines. But I'd pick any of the above over most "crossovers". (The Flex and Taurus-X) being the exceptions that I like).

I completely agree with that. The VW has a good ugly interior too, but a great looking exterior compared to the rest.

Anyway - congratulations on a good choice and many happy miles with the Flex!

Memo to GM: What was it about the Lambda minivan?

Re: First ever non-GM product - a 2009......

I always thought that someone should swing SUVs to the more practical wagon end of the spectrum (ie away from under-utilised truck traits). I certainly is an acquired taste but it looks like it would have great functionality. Nice choice.

P.S. mrs mak asked me what sort of car I would want if we extended our family.
A new wagon of course

......though I suggested swapping my purchasing influence for more practice. I'm still in negotiations

The Flex is definitely a modern day full size station wagon. It's a little taller of course but it's no longer than a minivan and significantly lower than most 3-row SUVs. I think this is practical packaging for families. I would love for wagons to make a comeback in this market, leaving the big BOF SUVs to the trailer crowd instead of the impractical suburban mom crowd

What an ugly, ugly vehicle. Too bad you left GM for disgustingly ugly vehicle. You should have waited for the new Equinox in a couple months.

Hmmm............... I think I have noticed a pattern with your posts. They all seem to be ridiculously anti Ford.

If you hate their vehicles, and the company so much................. do not post on threads that have to do with them, or their vehicles.

On a side note, you don't have to be an ass. He bought a new vehicle that he loves, under the terms that he wanted............... and bought American, on top of it.

Get over yourself already.

Autofan, congrats on the new vehicle !!! I saw one on the road yesterday, and they definitally look better in person, than in pics. I still need to check out the interior. Being here in small town USA, you don't get as many opportunities. I tried checking one out at our local Ford store, but it had sold before I got there.

Don't pay any mind to ding dongs like Joe................. you obviously did your homework, and explained your situation very well.

Enjoy your new ride, and know that you helped an American company, and the economy in the process. This is how I also felt, when I bought my new Superduty in July.

I don't mind the negative comments from immature 12-year olds (either literally or in mentality) but will say again that the Flex is not for everyone. Ford's own brochure for it says just that. I will say I was intrigued by the exterior, but not in love with it. Once I got in it, the interior won me (and my wife) over. The roomy, open layout and materials (far more soft-touch than the Lambdas) are first rate. The seats are soft but fully supportive. The dark blue-grey and creamy gray color scheme, with just enough wood-tone accents, is beautiful, and the large windows all around are great for visibility and airy feel. The cabin just seems a step above all of the Lambdas save the Enclave. I think GM's crossovers are very nice and certainly offer even more space, but the Flex was the right wagon for us, no regrets!
