Smile Dodge Sprinter Gets 18 MPG On Quest For Chicago Hot Dog

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...-superdawg.htm

I drive a lot of new cars, but rarely vehicles this big. Mostly I am amazed that we averaged 18 MPG in this big shuttle...including a full, 10-passenger run.

Will Dodge still get to sell this?

Dodge will likely continue to sell this as America production just began this year.

If Dodge doesn't sell it, Freightliner still will.

Are all you all doing that "dot at the end of the post" thing for my benefit?

I'm not fully amused.

I don't think the Dodge version will be going anywhere any time soon--Daimler still has a stake in Chrysler, and they said that product sharing is still on the table. Just like they won't take away the dual-mode hybrid Durango.

I believe that Sprinter is a fairly profitable proposition for Dodge dealers, as well. Despite fairly steep pricing, the product is moving. I expect to see additional variations in the near futute.

Hey! I am quoting me! Just read that the Sprinter will remain a Dodge property for a while.

I think it's time for Chevrolet to raise the roof and door height a little on the express. It's always difficult for an adult to duck in and crawl back there.

18 mpg is very impressive in Chicago traffic with that many passengers. It's time for smaller diesels in America.

Re: Dodge Sprinter Gets 18 MPG On Quest For Chicago Hot Dog

My experience with the 05 and 06 model sprinters w/ the 2.7L I-5 Turbo diesel over 2500 hwy miles showed an average of 21mpg fully loaded. The First 1600 mi was on a new van with 300 mi on the odo, and the second 900 mi trip with a van with 2500 mi on the odometer. That second trip consisted on 80% of the time being over 65mph, many times near the governor of 85.

Yeah, I recall hearing about how frugal the GEN 1 Sprinters were. I think the 2.7 was a wee tiny for U.S. applications, though.

Mercedes will still own about 30% of Chrysler after the deal is completed. Freightliner stopped selling their version a while back. Since MB doesn't want to sell this with an MB badge in the US, it makes sense for them to keep selling it as a Dodge.

18MPG loaded with 10 passengers. Color me impressed. Thats damn good.

Yeah, I am driving an Audi Q7 right now that's getting about 17 mpg...

Sterling is going to build class 4 and 5 mediums using Dodge pickup chassis and Cummins engines. They look pretty cool with the Sterling grille. I believe production begins for 2008.
