Chevy Cobalt

For a while now I have been considering replacing my Cavalier with the Cobalt. I've had my car long enough now, and with the 115 HP 2.2 and automatic, power and acceleration is just adequate. As tempting as the supercharged Cobalt is, the price difference along with higher insurance is just a bit more than I am willing to spend. So, on a Saturday a couple weekends ago, I went to my dealer and decided to test drive one. I have had my eye on the SS coupe with the 2.4, though the dealer didn't have one in a 5-speed, so I drove an SS sedan with the manual. I pretty much knew what to expect for power since I have driven the Solstice, and of course there was no lack in power. The interior was definitely nice, and a huge improvement over a 5 year old Cavalier. It seemed to be geared a lot better than the 5-speed manual in the Solstice and of course it revved easily enough, and was not loud, and the transmission took a little bit of getting used to, only because I haven't driven a manual in 3 years, though I had no problem with the clutch at all. I was definitely impressed, and now really am wanting to buy sooner because of it. I so should know better than to go on a test drive...but I am definitely sold on it.

Re: Chevy Cobalt

Yeah, same thing happened to me. I get to drive a lot of cars at work including Mazda 3, Civics etc. When I took a Pursuit G5 GT out for a test drive, I was hooked.

The VVT 2.4 is plenty strong enough for me. The car gets nearly double the fuel milage around town than my Grand Am V6 did. So savings in gas pay for the difference in monthly payments between the two cars.

Re: Chevy Cobalt

the cobalt is a great car...i highly recommend it, and it gets great new features such as a 3 spoke steering wheel, new radio, and remote start for this year. Go for the ss...although, the SS_SC is the way to go for me!

Re: Chevy Cobalt

I have been seriously concidering a SS/SC, especially now that the Stage1/2 pkgs are out. But still, SRT-4's just have something the Cobalt SS's dont, I cant put my finger on it though. probably poor quality(and better performance) . but I still love SRT-4's!!

Re: Chevy Cobalt

If I were to get the SS/SC, I'd definitely be going for the full upgrades for power, figure may as well go all the way with it. With all the driving I do though, mileage is quite important. Besides, I'd get tickets way too easy and with an insurance claim about to fall off, I need the rates to be low.

Re: Chevy Cobalt

I saw a 4 door SS yesterday. I didn't even know they made a 4 door.

It didn't sound supercharged- probably had the 2.4.

Non SS = 2.2 ecotec (coupe/sedan)
SS = 2.4 VVT ecotec (coupe/sedan)
SS/SC = 2.0 supercharged. (coupe)

Re: Chevy Cobalt

Yeah I drove a SS/SC and I was really impressed with the get up and go that the car had. It felt almost as quick as my GTP.
