2006 Pontiac G6 Rental Car

Okay friends I'm back from my Thanksgiving trip. I rented a Pontiac G6 from Enterprise at my destination and had a good couple days driving it.

Body = The car is very impressive for a GM product. The bright red color presented a stunning silhouette. I even liked the GM badges on the fenders. The rear of the car has some 'Passat-like' looks.

Interior = Dark charcoal. The chrome accents around the vents were classy yet not gaudy (my buddy mentioned them as looking very nice). The red interior lights looked very nice. The 6-disc in dash changer had excellent controls and very good sound. The HVAC controls were logically placed and minimal (which is good). The fit and finish was second to none. One thing I did notice was the dash pad was HUGE. The moonroof provided additional light. One negative was the dash-mounted key. Just don't like this, but it on the steering column or just make it a button.

Engine = The V6 is responsive, quiet, smooth, and features the low-end torque that signifies a GM V6. It might be weak at the top end but that doesn't concern me. Anyone who says the GM engine is buzzy and weak needs to buy foreign cars. While they're at it, go ahead and move to Japan as well.

Efficiency = I drove at 70 MPH on the highway and was deliberatly trying to max out fuel economy. At the end it showed 27.9 MPG. I was slightly disappointed; yet since the car only had 6500 miles it might improve with time. I had really hoped to hit over 30 MPG. If I had more time, I would have slowed to 65 on the interstate to see if that makes a difference.

Overall = I give the car a 9.5/10. .5 was deducted solely for the lack of 30 MPG. The G6 was a very nice car that I could buy and be very happy with. It will be added to my list of possible cars.

Was it a base V6, GT, or GTP?

being a rental i doubt it was anything but a base V6, with the convenience group, I'm sure that once it has a few more mileage on it it will improve, I had a rental GP SE with the 3.4 V6, and it got 28+ highway. so im sure the saller G6 with the newer style engine would get 30+, if a GP can get 28+ surley a G6 can get 30+

Based on your dissapointment about the fuel economy. It was a rental. The person before you could have beatin the crap out of it. A few days wouldn't be enough time to bring up the MPG. My girlfriends mom has one and she has the base V-6 and gets 23 in the city, Im sure that 30, maybe more is possible, glad to hear you like the car though

No necessarily. The GP SEs typically had the 3.1, but the 3.8 gets about the same mpg. It doesn't have to work as hard, so life is easier and it works less. The 3.5 may be geared higher, for some reason GM seems to lost part of its mind regarding appropriate gearing.
