2006 G5 GT 3 year wrapup report
Although the GT is now history, I figured I'd report on my luck with the car for the 3 years I owned it.
This car was good to me. In the 3 years I owned it, it never let me down. When it was new, I had a couple noise complaints and a clutch feel complaint. One noise was the fault of a tech who did a TSB or recall to under the front windshield cowl. The other was a squeek in the rear which they lubed the mounts. They "resettled" the transmission. All three went away and did not return. My only other problem was a rattle in the left front area. We put it on the hoist and work and the caliper would rattle when tapped with a fist. So I took the car in and told them this. They put foam behind the pcm and lubed the strut mount and said it's fixed. Nope. Took it back a couple months later, told them again it's the caliper. They ended up replacing the strut and said it's fixed. Nope. So I got one of the guys at work to do a service on the caliper and pack it with extra grease. The noise was gone. But the real reason I got rid of this car was because of a cold knock it developed at around 1000kms. It sounded like piston slap on a GM V6. The dealer said they could hear the noise but since it wasn't effecting driveability, they could do nothing. So, all in all, I did have good luck with it. Fuel economy on it was not right, I'm already getting better mpg with the SS on my work route and it's nowhere near broken in yet. |

Re: 2006 G5 GT 3 year wrapup report
Thanks for posting this. I was wondering if they way for Cobalt to live out its full lifecycle with the Cruze coming is give the platform to Pontiac. Redesign the interior and keep the G5 as a unique product for BPG when Cruze comes on board for Chevrolet.
Cobalt SS would make a great G5 GXP.
