2005 Chevy Trailblazer LT

Thought I'd give my small review of our new 05 TB after the first 2500 miles. The wife and I traded her '03 Sonata LX V6 off in June(Hyundai has Honda and Toyota beat hands down in the mid-size class with this car). We took advantage of the GM "Employee Price" deals and picked up a loaded '05 TB/LT. As a life long Ferd fan she was skeptical of driving a bowtie until I, life long GM fan, at least got her to test drive one. She was looking for a SUV that had a car feel to it in the interior but was a real truck (i.e. an actual chassis and two speed x-fer case). We drove them all in the mid-size SUV market over that last year or so. She originally fell in love with the Toyota 4-runner but not the 45k sticker on the model she wanted. The Explorer she liked was just as bad. I finally got her into the TB. She loved it. It had more features then the 4-runner and Explorer. So after much wheeling and dealing we got it.

Jump ahead 2500 miles.

Drive Train:

The vortec 4200 in this rig is flawless and never skips a beat. It has more then adequate power. it is averaging about 18.7 mpg in mixed driving and is as quiet as can be. The only thing the wife does not really like is that it is a high revving motor. It does not mind jumping up to 5k RPM to run up a long 6-7% grade in the mountains here in Colorado. It will do it all day long and smile but it un-nerves the wife. I blame this on the tranny. It's geared a bit goofy. 1st is 3.5:1, second kicks up to 1.69, third is 1:1 and fourth is a .69:1 cruise. I believe it could have had a closer ratio slush box and it would be perfect. The diffs have the 3.73's which, to me, is a perfect gear for these mountains where I live, but, I'm sure aggravates the RPM problem the wife complains about. We will be towing 2 ATVs in about a year so I'm sure she will change her tune then with the deeper 3.73's. They also come with 3.55's. Score 9/10.

Interior:

It is very well laid out and still has that ****************-pit/car feel the wifey likes. She LOVES the XM Sat radio. It also has On-star but she is to shy to us it. We have not even called 'em to set up a pin number in case we lock the key in it or something. It also has rear air and radio controls in the rear consol for our daughter. Perfect! She just stuffs the 6-disc CD changer full of her Cd's and we hardly hear a peep out of her. Also to my suprise NO INTERIOR RATTLES!!!!! We have even taken it off road (Yes my SUV's actually see dirt!) and it never rattled! I wish I could say the same about my '04 Monte. It has two I need looked at. Only complaint is it is still the monochrome black plastic. It fits the vehicle though so not a real problem. She does give an A+ for the 2 way memory seats since she is a short thing and I'm a six footer. Score 8/10.

Overall

In short this TB is going to last us a good long time. She comments almost daily on how nice it looks. Mostly because she can't believe it's a Chevy. Heh, when she grew up in Oklahoma her family all but forbid Chevy's from there house and only drove Ferds.

enjoy your new Trailblazer, if you waited until next year, it develops 291 HP, but i'm sure 275 is more than enough lol.
