2003 Ford EXPEDITION-Not bad

I went on a road trip for 2 weeks with my friend. They bought a 2003 Expedition XLT ,because there Jeep liberty couldnt pull their Brand-New Four Winns boat.(that boat was wicked too!)
RIDE
Ok this thing rode like a car.Totally couldn't tell it was a SUV.Even over Desert Roads or W/E.10/10 for ride.It rode better than my moms 2000 VW golf.It had the same engine as my dads F150(260Hp Triton 5.4L V8)So it got going OK 8/10.The again we were pulling a 6000Lb boat so that would make the acceleration worse.Road noise was excellent too.

INTERIOR
This had a nice interior. I liked the Rear seat HVAC controlls.Seats were good but not as good as the Silverado i reviewed. The Power Fold down 3rd row was sweet. We used it as a Poker table when it was too windy.

EXTERIOR
I think it looked nice.A bit too Low though. And i kinda felt a bit yuppie in it.(there not yuppies though, they own 7 acres and have a cool BMX track too)
It should have been a bit higher for a 4X4.It looked like a 2x4.

Overall I think the new Expedition is more road orientated then Off-Road orientated. But if you dont need to do huge off roading (well you would need a lift with anyother car anyways)Ide check this out.It offers good road abilities and good looks in a Great overall package.
--------------------------------
Pros:
-Ride
-Seats
-Engine
-Styling(inside and out)
------------------------
Cons:
-Too low
-Kinda Yuppie-ish
-Acceleration(with boat so...under rated)

Overall Rating: 9/10

Why doesn't this surprise me?

I've never driven the Expedition, but i've driven the Navigator. It rides and handles extremely well. In fact, it handles like a car.

Tough times are ahead. A brand new car is not in the cards. My new (to me) 16 year old Accord serves the purpose extremely well. And it's paid off!

Re: 2003 Ford EXPEDITION-Not bad

we had a 4.6L 2003 Expedition as a rental in L.A. it isn't a bad SUV, but the cargo room wasn't as good as we expected. Gas mileage was extermely dismal, in fact worse than a 2005 Tahoe rental car we had. The Expedition is a good SUV but I don't think it's as good as the Tahoe.

If you had the 5.4L it would of been better. It gets the same gas milage but it has lower RPM's so you can get better gas milage in.If you fold the 3rd rown down then you have ample cargo room.I will admit though the tahoe has better fuel economy.Because its a Pushrod.

well we did fold down the seats and it still wasn't that great, the 4.6L V8 is in my cousins F-150 and it feels exteremely sluggish, but with GM's power increases for 2006, especially the 4.2L I6 with 291 HP, it's gonna give the competition a run for their money.

The 4.6L is a write off dont bother with it. You can get a way better engine for the same fuel economy. If you get the 5.4L IM suprised you didnt find that much room?

Re: 2003 Ford EXPEDITION-Not bad

well we had about 5 people with us and we folded down the rear seat and it couldn't fit all our luggage and i thought it's bigger than a Tahoe, and they didn't have any cargo vans which would've been better. Don't get me wrong, I like the Expedition, it was a pleasure to ride in but the 4.6L V8 is a disgrace and gas mileage was horrible, in fact worse than the tahoe minus the luggage as we drove it around once the luggage was cleared.

Never have really liked that yuppie mobile called the Expedition, Plastic bumpers are disgraceful on a full size SUV! Too bad the beloved Bronco was discontinued for this.
