Firebird Mods

Is there a part anywhere that can make the black part of a Firebird tail light a silverish color rather than black? Just curious. I think it'd be superior looking. I've always imagined it in my head. On the topic of Firebird mods how 'bout a mod that adds a second exhaust pipe on the V6 model? Is it a difficult/expensive mod?

Re: Firebird Mods

For the silver appearance mod, do you mean the trunk lock panel or the black lines (if 98-02) in the honeycomb design? If you mean the filler panel, the only way to change the color is
a)have it painted
b) have someone cut a silver sheet of vinyl and place over the whole area.
There are no taillight mods I've ever seen other than blackouts.

If you want two exhaust pipes, just buy a single in, dual out muffler (I recommend Hooker). It cost me like $140 w/ quad tips plus another $30 for installation. Don't get a damn Flowmaster, they sound horrible on V6s. I prefered the Hooker Aerochamber b/c they pop far less than FMs but still give a nice rumble at idle.

Re: Firebird Mods

Something like this. Kinda. (I'm bad with photoshop)

Or maybe I could add some side-ported exhaust pipes instead? I dunno maybe I'm getting ridiculous.

Re: Firebird Mods

Another question: Is it easy to put 93-97 tail lights on a '99?

Painfully easy. If you can pull the carpet back from the rear of the trunk, undo about 4 to 6 large plastic nuts, twist the bulb harness out of the old lenses and re-install the 98+ lenses you can do it. They are direct fit, no skills required compatible with each other. Although not many people go backward and put LT1 tailights on their 98+ Firebirds. The honeycombs don't de-laminate like the LT1 lenses do when they get old.

And no, there are no tailight decorative bezels to put over the lenses. You'd have to fabricate something like that yourself.

Re: Firebird Mods

the best thing to do for the silver rear would be to remove the tail lights, mask it out with tape, then prep and paint the black plastic with some sort of special plastic paint, i'm sure they have it, then for best protection just put a clear coat over the whole thing. Your best bet before you do anything would be to go talk to a body shop or someone that paints cars for a living. They could tell you the best way to getting this accomplished.
