Sky Leasing

Does anyone know why Saturn won't lease the Sky? I'm a die hard GM guy myself but my (mostly import customer) father-in-law wants to lease a Sky. I can't get him to "Rethink" leasing a Z4 or a s2000 if Saturn dosen't want his business.

Re: Sky Leasing

The thing is, GM does lease all their vehicles, but they put a standardized rate on the Sky. So what ever rate your credit can get you is how the lease ends up. I'm assuming this is to keep the value of the car up. I have a customer who pays $1,279 a month for a 39 month/15K a year on an XLR.

The dealer told him they do not lease the Sky and the person on Saturn's website on-line chat thing said they will only lease them to a GM employee and even then its at the dealer's discretion.

For a good deal less than your price he can go lease a Corvette. Eariler in the year the wanted to lease an Outlook or an Acadia but every offer was completely out of the ballpark compared to competing brands. I've got the man interested in getting a GM product but he feels like the dealers are trying NOT to sell a car. He likes the vehicles but he's not going to pay a premium for them when similar models with similar MSRPs from the competition are offering way better leases. Its fustrating.

Sounds like the dealer is the problem. A unit sold is a unit sold. I don't understand why they would NOT want to sell it. i can't speak for the dealer or the on-line chat, but I would have no problem leasing one to him. I asked my sales manager if he would have a problem leasing a Sky and he looked at me like I was stupid for asking that question.

In reality though, it is better that he buy it, after three years he could probably sell it and get his money back.

There is nothing similar to a Sky or Solstice. The competition just doesn't turn heads and GM can command a premium for them because people want them. An S-2000 for example has not been updated and the Miata looks and drives like a Go-Kart. It's winter, so they will sit on the lots and dealers will begin accepting GMS & GSU if it is available to the customer. Once Spring/Summer hit, dealers will more than likely only accept retail.

Re: Sky Leasing

I'm leasing my 2008 Sky. The MSRP was $27,700, I got it with a GM discount bringing the price to about $25,500 (can't recall the exact number). With $3000 paid up front (including all the up front costs and down payment), my 2 year/12K lease is $448/mo. It's worth every penny

Any retailer who will not lease the car doesn't know what they are talking about. True, there is no official lease program from GM on the car, but you can always lease it at a standard rate as I did. You could also try Chase leasing.

FYI, right now Pontiac is promoting a lease on the Solstice. It's $299/mo for 36 months with $1660 due at signing. They are also offering 0% financing on remaining 2007 Solstice models.

Agreed. I thought he was just BSing me when he told me the dealer wouldn't lease him one period. The dealership has 10 of them sitting on his lot and this is New Jersey with winter coming up and he's a customer who is ready to pull the trigger. I guess it just dosen't make sense to me.

He is one of those people who leasing works for. He gets bored with a car after a few years, dosen't drive that much (the Sky wouldn't be his daily driver anyway), and would rather not take a hit trading in a vehicle or go thorugh the effort of selling it privately.

Although you and I feel like the Miata and S2000 are no competition for the Sky/Solstice many people (unfortuantely my father-in-law is one) disagree. He really likes the Sky the most but he can't get one if GM won't even lease him one much less come up with lease payment even somewhat close to the competition.

My father is a GM retiree so I get his full GM employee/retiree discount. You can calculate what the discount would be using www.gmfamilyfirst.com. Select Build Your Own from the drop down menu at the top and it will take you to a GM employee version of GM BuyPower that will allow you to build and vehicle and then show you the GM discounted price. If your dad doesn't qualify for the GM employee discount, there are referral programs also posted on that site that explain how to obtain a Supplier discount.
