+1; your best bet for trying negotiation at a Saturn dealer is usually with your trade-in.

Jeez NSAP, I had no idea, 9 times....

You know, I think this might be a good time for a GMI Staff Member Commentary. If you think GM will stiff you despite all of these problems, I wonder how GM would react (if at all) to your taking the list public. You might be pleasantly surprised, and I would not call that being selfish --- you'd be doing potential Equinox & Torrent buyers a real service!

I'm glad you're reconsidering buying another Equinox. I mean, I criticized a friend of mine who bought a new Honda Odyssey after 4 transmission replacements and cruise control failure (and still didn't "trust domestics" despite never owning one) --- this would be like the same thing.

Whoever designed and approved the Equinox does not deserve your repeat business of purchasing another Equinox, new engine or not.

Yeah. That is on the list of things to do if I don't hear something decent from GM in the next few days....

Re: Saturn...Really No Haggle?

Why are we having this discussion? Saturn has not negotiated for 16 years now, we should all know this. The're not going to change for one or a few buyers. The dealerships that were allowing negotiating lost their franchise.

Re: Saturn...Really No Haggle?

A commentary about nsap's serivice experiences does sound good.

nsap,

I'm sorry you've had to deal with these problems with the Nox. I read in the other thread you were thinking of a CX-7. Having personal experiences with a few, I wouldn't think you'd regret that purchase one bit. It's a nimble, comfortable, spacious crossover with good looks in and out. Plus, if you a really able to get a top of the line model for 3 or 4k off, I would definitely jump on that. Of people I've taken to see the CX-7, 3 have bought them, and the dealers around here really were not moving much around here on price. These purchases were earlier on though, so that may have now changed, but nonetheless, Mazda makes a good crossover.

Well my bad. As I said in my initial post, I've NEVER even been in a Saturn retailer...I didn't have a clue how they did things. Excuse me for not knowing it all.

There are certain things you can negotiate at Saturn to help you out, but they only apply to certain circumstances. You can negotiate the following:

Used Car Price
Trade-In Value
Accessory Price (should the vehicle already have accessories or you want to add them)
Doc Fee
Service Agreements (extended warranty, tire protection etc...)

I will not negotiate anything else with you because I can't. There have been plenty of times where I could have saved a sale if I could have negotiated, but the price you see is the price you pay.

As far as the person above who stated they had the dealer pay their first month payment, that is up to the dealer. Most in my area will not including my own.

Re: Saturn...Really No Haggle?

The Saturn dealer experience is excellent, the people are so nice and willing to work with you, etc. Whenever I need to do a review, they let me take the car, fill the tank with gas and do a walkaround of the vehicle. After that, they hand me the keys and I'm off! And I've never even purchased a vehicle from them. Getting another dealer to do that is like twisting their arm......the dealer experience is definitely a big factor when buying a car, and Saturn has it nailed.

Re: Saturn...Really No Haggle?

I've bought 2 Saturns, looking at getting a third, and you can't really haggle on the new car price, but you can on the car your trading in. That's just my experience though other dealers may be different.

Re: Saturn...Really No Haggle?

HA.

I totally forgot that I (think) I get supplier discount!! I have attempted to use it in the past, but never do because I get a better deal without it.

The Vue I would want is $2,400 cheaper with supplier discount. YEAH!

Wow, that would be great! $2400 cheaper, that's a big hit to the price.

Wow, now that really means something. I never knew supplier discount applied to Saturns, and I have it! So the GM card thing would be moot anyway since GMS can't be used in conjunction with the GM Card.

I say go for it!

I didn't either acutally. However I did confirm it with the Saturn dealership I have been in contact with, he said, "Yup, we honor GM Supplier and Employee pricing."

A loaded FWD XR with navigation and all for $27,522.63 then minus the $750.00 rebate...not a bad price at all.

I think that will be the Nox replacement. However, I am going to try the GM buy-back route before I go trading it off.

That's an excellent price! $27k for a loaded XR with Nav! Wow, I'd go for it definitely. Definitely try and see if GM will buy the Equinox back from you though. They probably won't but you should give it a shot.
