Re: Saturn is paying attention.

Well since we're lazy enough with SUV tail gates, why not just make it full power? Problem solved...

I just think it is rather silly.

Sure, if the trunk had the normal "goose-neck" hinge, but Aura's have the gas struts, so you'd have to give it one hell of a pull and make sure your arm doesn't get chopped off.

Car mags have to complain about something. I went to Costco this past week end and watched someone load up her Camry, only to not be able to close her trunk because the old "goose-neck" hinges were crushing her purchases.

I like the gas struts on my Aura. Since I used to own a van, the trunk doesn't make much pressure to close, however it certainly requires more than a trunk with the old style of hinge.

Re: Saturn is paying attention.

Couldn't they just have used the grab handle from the 9-3 parts bin?

The point of having a grab handle is to pull the trunk down to a position that you can just slam the trunk down from the top.
This isn't new, but is quite helpful in cars that do have them.

Ah, yes. I particularly enjoyed the Car & Driver comparison test where they vilified the Aura because they had to touch the outside of the trunk to close it, but not one mention of the cargo-crushing gooseneck hinges in the Camry (and most every other mid-size car). Apparently, they only like to open and close the trunk, rather than actually put anything in it.
