Just purchased a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR

Hi,
I don't know if anyone here remembers that I was contemplating buying a Saturn Outlook as my next car. I just wanted to share with you my buying experience for a Silver 2008 Outlook XR FWD. I have posted this in other Saturn forums since it seems that no one is sharing their buying information here. Why is that? Is it that the Outlooks aren't selling well? Any ways, here is how I purchased it.

After following the Lambdas (CUVs) since their release, I’ve been interested in the Saturn Outlook as a replacement for my 2000 Nissan Quest GXE minivan. This minivan has been great but with about 120K miles, I was getting ready to replace it. Back in April of 2007, I was interested in the new Acura MDX, the Chevy Tahoe and the Saturn Outlook (but I really wasn’t thrilled with the new Chevy Tahoe). To me, the Outlook is much nicer looking then the GMC Acadia (and even the Buick Enclave). After seeing the new Acura MDX in person, I decided that it was going to be the Saturn Outlook.

Since I was already familiar with the lambdas, I decided to investigate how people liked their 2007 Outlooks. I became familiar with the issues that some owners were having – like the transmission shifting and the water leaks from the sunroof and luggage racks on the 2007 models. By November of ’07, I had decided to look for a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR.

This is what I wanted:
A base 2008 Saturn Outlook XR FWD
8-passenger cloth interior.
Ocean Mist or Silver exterior ( preferably with Ebony interior)

Options:
Trailering Pkg only

After sending requests for quotes to most dealers in the San Francisco bay area, I realized that most only had fully loaded XR’s and I didn’t want leather. Also, most weren’t giving me quotes. They all just sent me an invitation to test drive the Saturn Outlook. Because of this, I also sent requests to the dealers in the Los Angeles area. Again, most just invited me for a test drive with the exception of one. Saturn of Torrance actually offered me any vehicle they had on the lot for Invoice. And they did have quite a few Ocean Mist and Silver Outlook XR’s. Most had other options. So I replied to them asking them for a quote for the least loaded Ocean Mist or Silver ’08 Outlook XR FWD with the Trailering Pkg.

So, at the end of December of 2007, I drove down to purchase my new 2008 Outlook XR

2008 Saturn Outlook XR
Silver exterior with Ebony interior
8-passenger / cloth seats.

Options:
Trailering pkg
Navigation with ‘backup camera’
Convenience Pkg (Remote start and
Power lift gate)

Price:……………......MSRP…...Invoice
………………...…...….30,190…..28,530
Opt Equip
UZR TouchScreen….2,340…..2,176
Navigation

PCU (with UZR) ….…685….…...637

PDC Conv Pkg……..…870……....809

V92 Trailering Pkg…..425…....…395

Destination Charge…..735…....735

Total with Options…....35,245…33,282

I offered 33,200 before the $500 Discount.

Price paid: $32,700.00 before taxes.

They wanted to add $695 for ‘paint protection’, $195 for ‘pin stripes’ and $350 for “marketing fee’. I said no to all these.

Here are a couple of pictures that I took recently (since it’s been raining here in the Bay Area, I haven’t washed my car)

Sorry, but I didn't know I was only allowed to load one 'file/picture' per post.

Congratulations......you'll love your Outlook! Even better, you paid a decent price for it. The MSRP on the Outlook is out of whack with the market so getting invoice was a good thing.

<<<<<< My local dealer has eluded to the fact they have room to move pricewise on the Outlook so count me in as an owner this year.... Enjoy it!

FYI...the same vehicle is stickered at $45,025 in Canada! See why so many cross border shop?

Good buy.

But are they allowed to haggle and/or discount like that? Seems to be against the Saturn Way.

Re: Just purchased a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR

You know, before I made my purchase, I was reading other Saturn forums (not this one), and the members there who also happen to be Saturn Sales people, were complainging about this. They were really upset that some Saturn dealers are will to 'hagle'. They felt that it was 'unethical', to which I suggested they stay off that coffee.

I think that it is great that some Saturn dealers are willing to sell at invoice to make a sale. We, the consumers, come out winning; and we're happier with a purchase like this.

It looks fabulous. I really like the Outlook, I think it's the best looking SUV on the road, period.
More importantly, it's safe, efficient, spacious, and it has a good warranty.

Congratulations.

Re: Just purchased a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR

You know what, I don't want to sound like I am jealous or insecure about my purchase, because I am really not, but at work, somebody just bout a new 2008 Acura MDX (black). So, every morning, I park next to this Acura. And after lunch, I look for it so I can park next to it.

What do you think? Do you think I am over doing it? or does it seem mean? I am not being insecure, just making sure this person knows that their is a better looking (better priced) vehicle than his. And that's a fact.

I think that is funny. I'd back in so he can see that Saturn knows how to make a front fascia that doesn't look ridiculous.

Hoosier,
I am way ahead of you. I've been doing that also. I've been very lucky that most of the time, I find an empty parking space next to this black Acura MDX.

I'll try to snap a picture of both of them parked next to each other.

OK, I couldn't resist it and had to go outside to take pictures of this since I am parked next to the black Acura MDX. Excuse me for the not so great pictures but we parked in a not so good area.

Here is one pic:
