Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
I may be in the market for a new sedan (to replace my '04 Maxx LT). In looking over both the Aura XR and the Malibu LTZ on the gmbuypower.com website, I can't really tell what the difference is between the cars.
The Malibu is coming about $600 more than the Aura, although I'm trying my best to option them out the same way. What did GM do to the Malibu to make it worth more? Or is the Aura less expensive because it lacks ths media exposure that the Malibu has received? Thanks - any details that show the difference will be appreciated. Steven

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
I would say that the Aura is "less expensive" because GM has factored in the "no haggle pricing" into the Aura.
You will most likely be able to get a comparable Malibu for cheaper than an Aura.

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
what do you want? Best sport sedan for a reasonable price or best interior/space usage? the first is Aura, the second is Malibu...also consider style/design of what is attractive to you. drive them back to back.

The feedback in the wheel of the Malibu has been lightened up a bit. Its not as heavy (or sporty) as the Aura. The Aura is not jarring by any means, but provides a much more sporty ride while muting the jarring effects of the road. Price is at a premium for the Malibu right now and depending on equipment level and dealer, the Aura may come out to be less expensive. Some of my customers report back $20 +/- on either side of the Aura. Either way I think you will be happy with both.

![]() ![]() Saturn may possibly win on resale if you want to think that far ahead (and replacing a 2004, this may come into affect), but as has been said, drive them back to back. Personally, I couldn't split them and would take which ever was available in a manual transmission...what's that? Neither have a stick? Flip a coin and hope it doesn't stick in the sand ![]()

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
I think the Malibu has been refined a little more. That said, I am a big fan of the Aura as well, and its resale would likely be good.

What makes the Malibu more effective in interior/space usage? I thought they were essentially the same interior wise. Thanks, Steven

They are in space. I will give the Malibu the edge when it comes to center console. The Auras does seem cheap compared to the Malibu. However everything like fit & finish and materials used is essentially the same.

As Coaster said, Aura has a 'heavier more feedback' type feel whereas the Malibu has "lighter, less effort, less feedback' type steering feel. The Malibu's interior size wise is essentially the same as the Aura, however the materials fit/finish in the Malibu is a little bit better, the design is more flowing and unique (a good thing), the bin on top of the stereo in Malibu has a tighter more substantial feel. You should drive them back to back, PAY ATTENTION to the green house and your blind spots and how high the beltline is and whatnot, this may be a deal decider. CobaltSScrazy

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
I personally like the exterior styling of the Aura better than the Malibu. I think I like the inside of the Malibu better than the Aura, though.
However, I know the Malibu can be loaded up with options even if you choose the 4 cylinder engine. I am not sure if the Aura is like that. It would be a tough decision for me. I think I'd go with the Saturn if I were getting a higher end model, and the Malibu if you are getting a more normally equipped car. The trim levels and prices seem to favor the Malibu in that range given the interior quality and options on the LT models vs the LTZ (it's not much of a step down at all...but it's a lower price). You drive a Maxx LT right? I know the cars are very similar, but if you are happy with your Chevy, then go with the new Malibu. I'd go with the Malibu first, but if they don't have the car you want (A likely possibility) or if they give you a run around, then go with the Saturn. You'd be more familiar with the dealership and the options/packages. Really though, you can't go wrong with either. The Saturn has a little more sporty personality and a more euro look, but they are very similar. Last edited by member12 : 12-24-2007 at 11:23 AM. |

Enhanced convenience: Power passenger seat, adjustable pedals Premium Trim Package: Leather seating, heated seats. Sunroof. Power tilt & sliding. Big mistake on GMs part. I get so many short older folks who would love the pedals & leather in a cheaper model (ie: 4 cylinder.) I guess their idea is that they will step up to the 3.5 liter V6.

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
We'll be going high end on either one - either the Aura XR (MSRP $27,630) or the Malibu LTZ (MSRP $28,245). I priced them both on gmbuypower.com.
I do plan to drive them both as we get closer to a purchase. It appears that the consensus here gives the nod to the Malibu as far as the interior materials and quality. Those of you familiar with the outgoing Malibu (2004 - 2007 run), how do you feel that the Aura and Malibu compare with respect to interior materials/quality. Also, any comments on long term reliability of these when compared to the outgoing Malibu? Thanks, Steven

Re: Aura XR compared to Malibu LTZ
Sounds like a good problem to have. If you are not a GM card kind of person I would give Saturn a shot just for the dealership experience.

Malibu for now. When the next Aura/Insignia/Vectra comes out then that. Hopefully that Aura will have a stick shift...
