'07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

Road Test Review: 2007 Saturn Sky

Saturn's new roadster sets a style and performance high water mark for the brand. It's not so much a maxi Miata as a Corvette junior petite.

Yes it does...but seriously...how long can you live with a yellow car? It is as bad as RED when it comes to Police too.

"Saturn's new roadster sets a style and performance high water mark for the brand"

Meaning - This is Saturn's best vehicle so far and definitely a high point for Saturn but the car is not close to being the class leader.

As always, the same things we've been saying - it's the details that count and C&D agrees. However, what both the Sky and Solstice have over the MX-5 is a strong edge styling and tons of chicks will buy the car just based on that fact. So I think this car will sell well inspite of it's shortcomings. But just imagine what it could have been with just a little more effort.

To understand why the MX-5 is the class leader, read this article on their development process and extreme attention to detail (read the article all the way)

That MX-5 is a sharp looking vehicle. The Sky is a sharp looking vehicle. Still the MX-5 is the better choice. That convertable hard top is hard to beat.

If I was to purchase a Saturn...it would have to be the Aura!

Until Mazda brings out an engine as an option that comes anywhere close to the Sol GXP or Sky RL, the MX-5 will only be the "class leader" in the eyes of old ladies and cruisers... certainly not roadster enthusiasts. The base Skys leave a lot to be desired in the power area as does the MX-5. The Sky Redline won't even be in the mundane Miata's "class"... it will leave the S2K behind, and compete favorably against $40-50K roadsters.

Old Dood, you certainly are showing your age & are by far in the minority if you think the Miata is a "sharp looking vehicle"... certainly not compared to the Sky. (maybe compared to a PT Cruiser). And a hard-top MX-5? Total waste of money, weight, motors to break-down... The press worldwide almost unanimously is asking WHY? "Ill-conceived and unneeded on an entry-level economy roadster like the Miata." They need an engine with some torque, not a roof for the executive secretary's out there!

Re: '07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

Saw my first Sky last night. I was riding my mountain bike just outside of town on a small road heading into the foothills. The driver of the Sky had been pulled over my a Motorcycle cop and as I road past, I overheard them talking. The cop did not pull him over to write a ticket, he pulled him over to look at the car!

I think that was a fair review. However, if GM plans to give Buick or Cadillac a Kappa, they should really think about the ergonomics, the practicality, and the ablility to accomodate a V8.

Re: '07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

the sky is a nice vehicle, and for all its shortcomings (solstice included here) its going up against a 3rd gen Miata whereas this is a first gen kappa. (its the same thing with like the 8th honda civic/ camcord / 5series/ Eclass where as we are on the first delta, epsilon, and sigma) we will see if those HUGE areas for improvement are addressed in kappa/ep/delt/sigma 2.

i think it looks great in black/silver, yellow/red are just too bright and cop-happy.

Re: '07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

I like the Kappa's in black, silver, and dark blue. I've only saw one Sky and it was dark blue. I've seen a whole bunch of Solstice's that were red and one that was black. My friend has a Solstice R/C car that is dark blue.

Re: '07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

The new NC Miata is AWFUL. I've been a die-hard Miata fan since childhood, but after looking at the NC, I was disappointed. The exuberant, sprightly soul of the Miata is dead. It became a bar of soap with a soft top. And what the hell is with the cupholder in the door panel that juts into my knee??? That, along with the Jeep-like stance and cold interior, is a dealbreaker.

Re: '07 C/D Saturn Sky Review

The SKY is nice, but I think it will have issues when the Hardtop Miata comes out in 08 or 09. I was planning on buying one but the lack of GMS pricing and the freaking long wait for one is not acceptable to me. So I'll get a Saab. My dad is talking about ordering a 2008 Solstice GXP (yes the wait is that long) anyway and if he keeps it 3 years that's a long time, so I'll probably just buy it used from him.
