Why it's rarely a good idea to simply fire someone

So many people called for GM to fire whoever was responsible for the Aztek that I lost count. How many people on this board made such a statement?

This is how it always is. When something goes wrong, many people's first inclination is to fire somebody.

But the problem is quite often the system, not the person.

Go look up who led the Aztek team. Then check out who led the team for the Camaro concept.

    Same guy, Tom Peters.

Yes, but as good as it is (even now I cannot stop looking at it) it owes a lot to the Cafaro concept that was the basis for the C5. The C5 would have looked more like the C6 if they'd decided soon enough to leave out the spare. (Then again, Tom Peters played a major role in the C5 design as well, with the final product a strong blend of his and Cafaro's designs.)

The Camaro, in contrast, looks like just another retro cartoon at first, but now looks more brilliant every time I see the photos. The silver paint helps. Cannot wait to get to the show on Fridday.
