Volt was indeed vaporware. None of the original model survived. What's on display now is a realistic version of a "series" hybrid. Significant changes between concept and what ends up being produced should have expected.

Whatever the case, the technology itself will work fine, but the quantity available and the price will keep it from joining mainstream vehicles until quite a number of years from now.

Remember now ....

Talk about the Pious and the Volt in the same thread and the idoits will come out of the woodworks - primarily those who think they are "experts" at hybrids.

Is this how Prius chat members with egg on their face are going to spin it?

Priuschat: "The Volt is vaporware and GM will never make it"

Headlines (6 months ago): "GM says the Volt is on schedule and they are meeting their goals to bring the Volt to market"

Priuschat response: "The Volt is vaporware and GM is just engineering by press release...it's all hype and they'll never make it"

Headlines (now): "GM debuts production model of Volt and expect it to be in showrooms in 2010"

Priuschat response: "Ehhhh, ummmm, yeah, errrrr, uhhh, the Volt WAS vaporware because it LOOKS nothing like the concept....seeeeeee....we were right (BTW guys...the Prius is prettier!)!!!!

Inside the head of average Priuschat member: "damn you GM"

I sense desperation arising from the prius fanboys...

Re: Volt - in captivity ... touched and pic'd

You are always going to have fanboys on every brand specific site there is. The little time I have spent on Prius forums seems to show that there is a higher percentage of Hybrid/Technology fans than pure Toyota fans so they may be more accepting as a group, of the Volt, than a typcial Toyota first buyer

The die hard priuschatters want the world to use NO dino fuel whatsoever. They've already gone out and purchased a $5000 or $10000 HyMotion conversion kit on the current models.

The technorati therein love everything new and all advancements coming on the horizon just for the sake of newness and for the contribution to the science of transporation.

The loudmouthed bozos therein are not unlike the loudmouthed bozos herein.

I feel ashamed for going to that link and having a Toyota-based anything on my computer.

There is a good one Big Swede:

Pretty good forum, and the guy that runs it has meetings w/Lutz and the other Volt development team and execs a lot...so the info is good. It is essentially the "official Volt" thread. And the people posting on the forum are cool too. They are all really excited to drive an American car and are actively rooting for GM, which is great to see.

I would love to see a badass Pontiac version too...GM could produce one with the same body as the Volt concept...it would be great! Might not get as many miles on electricity as the Volt but it would look fantastic with a red arrowhead on the front!

I'm a member over there only because a few of them joined another TRUCK website I'm a part of. All of them are Anti Truck/SUV and Anti GM.
They are all tree huggers and doomsdayers.

I hope the Volt sells like a mofo and blows the prius fags back into the stone age.

No I think the newness of something other than the crappy plastic that surrounds them in the Prius is to blame.

"What is this strange substance on the seats? It sure doesn't feel like my seats, and my seats are the best because I drive a Prius. It must be plastic."
I find the interior of Toyotas generally to be unbelievably ugly and cheap. I don't understand how people put up with it. It reminds me of GM a few years ago.

The Volt's interior does seem to be causing some folks fits. It's all rather funny, in my opinion. I guess they wanted to see the interior from a 1990s era Cavalier. That way they'd be able to gloat about how pathetic the interior was.

All I can say is: "Surprise!".

The Volt isn't vaporware because the Volt is more the drivetrain than the body. To me, it was about the coolness of the technology. That's what the Volt is all about. Some others may believe it was about the concept's skin, but it's what was under the skin that was the big deal.

If it was just the skin, GM could have built it with a regular drivetrain. It's about the drivetrain, and to get efficiencies I always figured they'd have to tweak it to make it efficient. I see no problem with this.

Plus, the Volt is a looker either in concept skin or production skin. The Prius, on the other hand, is just plain ugly and ungainly. It took GM and real designers to show the world that "green" doesn't have to be ugly.

The prius fanboys have nothing on the Volt. The only thing they can use against it is that it doesn't look like the concept. I wasn't a big fan of the concept myself, but like you said, it's the technology, the fact that I can drive this car to school and back and not use a single drop of gas.

It's going to be real fun once the Volt comes out. All the poor prius fanboys trying desperately to find anything to rag on the Volt...but all you have to say is, "Soooo...how much did you pay for gas this month?"

Re: Volt - in captivity ... touched and pic'd

Did you guys see this:
http://gm-volt.com/2008/09/26/bob-lu...-chevy-cruzes/

"Current Volt Mules are Chevy Cruzes"

He also said the newest crop of mules are in Chevy Cruze bodies, instead of Malibus, and that they are building 3 per week and will have 50 by the end of 2008.

So much for vaporware .... sounds like "sour grapes" for our local Pious fans.
