Have you heard any rumors about the 3.9 V-6 becomming available in the Maxx in the future? I was looking at one the other day, It's quirky but I liked it. I just wish it had more power.
The regular Malibu has a base 4-cylinder engine....the 3.5L has good power from what I've read.
The 3900 won't be in the G6 until spring, and I'd guess it will have some exclusivity with that engine for at least half a year before a Malibu Maxx SS.
GM performance technology to provide significant increases in performance at an affordable price," said Brent Dewar, Chevrolet marketing general manager. "The goal is to offer cars and trucks that knowledgeable enthusiasts will want to own and can afford to own."
Starting with 18-inch Chevy SS polished aluminum wheels and P245/40ZR18 tires - both 2 inches larger than the production car - the laser blue show car's in-your-face attitude continues with a chassis that is lowered by an inch.
Chevrolet has not finalized plans to produce the Malibu Maxx SS, but Greg Bellopatrick, vehicle chief engineer for the Malibu car line, said such a vehicle would likely be equipped with a higher displacement V-6, providing higher performance than the standard 3.5 litre engine while maintaining overall value.
"We think Malibu SS would set itself apart while staying true to the SS heritage of vehicles that served multiple purposes - family vehicles with performance," Bellopatrick said. "The Malibu Maxx SS concept allows us to bring this idea to a higher plane. We think this increases the fun-to-drive factor significantly."

Did you want to race your Malibu Maxx? In that case I think what you should be looking at is a Corvette Z06. Some people![]()
The Malibu isnt going to be ment for racing, it's ment for the dad who has the wife and kids to hall around, but wants a car with some balls to it. Do people race an Impala SS around the track on weekends banzai? If I had a family the Malibu SS would be at the top of my list.
I am not a father or father type. I wanted a 5dr hatchback with some kick. It came down to the Vibe, Maxx, Matrix, and even the Nox. The Vibe/Matrix's Toyota motor will make you sick with all that revving.Originally posted by giagastormer@Aug 15 2004, 05:22 AM

Yoblues, please take a drive in a Maxx and feel the power of the 3.5!
I love mine, and the power is great for daily driving. The power is very Chevy with great low end passing power. Not to mention the features you can get in the car that you cant really get anywhere else. I love mine. I have over 1k miles on her already, and I enjoy the flexability it gives me. Handling is awesome, and everyone will love all the room they have. Deffinatly one of the better cars that Chevy has made in the last few years, and very clever.

HELLO HELLO HELLO! I drove it. I want more horsepower period. Some clown infered that some people are never satisfied? Are you a GM SUIT? I BET YOU ARE. GM suits haven't got it for 25 years. IT'S MY BLEEPING MONEY. I WANT MORE HORSEPOWER. Basicly I would prefere a Chevy. I have sadly come to realize GM/Chevy is always behind the curve and will never again give me what I want. Do you remember the Chevy Nomad 1999 V-8 concept? (Four years before the Magnum concept). I would have bought that Nomad in a heartbeat. It never got built. Chevy suits went pee pee on themselves, Dodge suits took the gamble. The reality is, next year I will probably buy a Dodge (HEMI) Magnum. Wagon practicality and HORSEPOWER! Tired of waiting for next year GM/Chevy. Next year never seems to come.

I know the Maxx is a good choice, but did you consider a Magnum at all? If not, why not?
2012 Chevrolet Cruze - 14,350 miles
2008 Kia Rondo - 41,000 miles
2004 Pontiac GTO - 71,864 miles (gone, but not forgotten)

I did, but unless I was getting the Hemi, It wasnt worth it. For the price I could get the Maxx, I would have to get the gutless 2.7.
It is a nice car, that I must say. I didnt want such a big car, and if I did have the cash to deal out for the Hemi, I wasnt gunna spend it on a station wagon!!
Id be walking over to my Pontiac dealer and setting up plans for my 05.
I also leased the car, and in 4yrs I just want to be able to walk back into the dealership and hand them the keys in exhange for a nice 08 Z28.![]()

yoblues i think you took the words outa my mouth :roflmao:
Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm flattered that you consider me the "expert." I'll be glad to reward your patience with plenty of pure speculation.
There won't be a 3.9L Maxx for 2005, but, with the rumored refresh coming for 2006, and the G6 having had its debut rights for the 3.9L fulfilled, it's a distinct possibility for that model year. I doubt that a manual transmission will be in the Maxx's future, but it's a crazy vehicle, and the fact that GM bet on it in the first place is a sign that somebody up there might shine their light on an enthusiast-oriented Maxx. The fact that the 3.9 is meant as a high-volume motor only bodes better.
Another option for more power is the aftermarket. Believe it or not, the Grand Am was popular with "tuners" before "tuners" were equivalated to "ricers," and the 3.4L Grand Am was treated to quite a few aftermarket performance boosts. With the 3.5L G6 replacing the Grand Am, 2005 Malibus will likely be subject to similar upgrades, assuming that the engines are identical.
For 2006 or 2007, I also caught a slip that Chevy will get the 3.6L HF engine. I'm assuming that this will be for the CSV's, but I can't be absolutely sure where it will go. I think the 3.9L is still the more desirable powerplant, and a probably a better fit to the Maxx. As performance gradually returns to Chevrolet, I think you'll see that 3.9 more and more frequently.
Wish me luck in my endeavors. By this time next week, I might actually be a "real" insider!

Ghrank thanks for the answer. For my next vehicle I want a wagon/crossover type. I don't like SUV's. The Maxx is right up my alley but I would want an SS type vehicle. I am not buying till next year so if the Maxx comes with that 3.9 and a sports suspension mabey an AWD option I would lean in that direction. That would be a very powerfull car but also offer really good milage. Hey make the SS version a two door and call it a Nomad.
On the picture at the beginning of this topic...
Why can't we get that color and also the painted crossbar...that in itself will fix the look up.
2010 Chevrolet Malibu LT2 -- 40,000 miles
2000 Chevrolet Blazer LT -- 90,000 miles
Traded -- 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 -- 183,467 miles
Family: 2012 Chevrolet Volt; 2011 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ RS; 2011 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD; 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT
The Malibu is suppose to get the 3900 in the 2007 MY. It could be an SS, and it might not. Only time will tell.Originally Posted by dav305z
