More Volt Details

A Q&A we did with volt product director Greg Cesiel

http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...volt-ques.html

Talks about driving experience, briefly mentions 0-60 times, child seats, tax credits etc.

Re: More Volt Details

0-60 of 9 secs. im impressed. for comparison, isnt the prius something like 12?

it would be pretty cool if they could make a stripper volt. something like a metro-erv.

i wouldnt mind seeing a 220 hp performance version one day either- that would be interesting.

and i like the comment about the suv seating not being a problem.....i wonder...maybe one day.

Increasing the horsepower in the volt wouldn't automatically give the volt a decreased 0-60 time.

yes it would. (although for EVs we usually use kilowatts instead of horsepower).

larger motor + more capable batteries and electronics = faster acceleration

Re: More Volt Details

I did not know the Volt could only seat 4. I love that LCD screen where the gauge cluster is supposed to be.

It ranges from 8.7 to 10.4 depending on the tester and the model. I believe that you were thinking of the Gen1 in 2001 which was ~12 sec.

I thought that was the big jug of smug that will come with each and every Volt so as to compete with the smug already spewed by the Prius.

I'm assuming it won't have a transmission. Electric motors have a flat torque curve so you don't need to shift gears if you design the motor to cover the full speed range you need.

For instance, I'm pretty sure the EV1 didn't have a transmission. And I think the Tesla has a 2-speed manual transmission, because they wanted it to have a very high top speed.

For reverse, just flip the voltage and run the motor backwards.
