Malibu Missing Options?

I've noticed that on the new Malibu, you can't get memory settings. Anyone know why this is? I would've thought that memory settings would have been available at least on the LTZ.

Seems to me the Impala is still a better deal, just not as sharp looking. More room, similar fuel mileage for V6. No memory settings on that, either, which is why I found it odd that it's not available on the Malibu, which is supposed to be Chevrolet's "gem", if you will.

Re: Malibu Missing Options?

I agree that the Impala seems to offer more for the money. However, after driving both I could understand why someone would be willing to buy the Malibu or the Impala even if they have to live without things and pay a little more for it.

When it comes to used cars that is another story. $12,000 to $15,000 for a nice used Impala just can't be beat.

Re: Malibu Missing Options?

The memory thing, at least on LTZ's, I get. It should be there.

BUT, tilt & telescoping steering wheel is STANDARD on all trims and even was on the last gen Malibu. Maybe you missed that somewhere?

So it's already not missing that much...at least with the 2 points you made so far.

That's what I mean. I've seen several 2008 2LT and LTZ Impalas with under 20,000 miles going for $15-20,000 asking price. I know the resale isn't great, but if someone is going to keep it for several years, the Impala seems to be a great deal. Almost half the price of a new Malibu, and the Malibu really doesn't offer any more options than the Impala. There are some Impala SS's I've seen for around $22,000 with under 12,000 miles.

Sorry about the steering wheel thing. I'll amend the first post. Just hadn't noticed it. The memory is a MAJOR option that should be on every top-level trim for any car, especially one that's supposed to be a savior. That's like not having a CD player or spare tire! LOL!

Re: Malibu Missing Options?

The impression I get from recent reading is that Ep I is limited in how much electronics can be supported. This seems to be the reason the adjustable pedals went away for 09 cars at the same time that bluetooth and iPod capabilities were being added. The only GM reasoning I've read was something to do with design limitations- ALL the Ep I Malibus have had the pedals, from the 04 cars up to the 08's, and this is the first time the issue was discovered? Not likely. More likely the design thing means we have to give something up to get what everyone's asking for.

So.. I'd expect that's probably also why there aren't memory settings. To be fair though, while I haven't checked with my 08 LTZ, the 04 LT V6 sedan actually *had* memory, at least for the radio presets. But it was based around the remote keyfob- use your keyfob to unlock the car and the settings change to yours. My significant other rarely drives our car, so I haven't noticed anything changing. That, and the fact that I thought I recalled one of the 05 changes being the removal of the feature, as too many owners thought something was broken when the radio presets changed (after someone use the other remote, no doubt).

Re: Malibu Missing Options?

What is the big deal about memory seats? Its not like the Malibu is a Cadillac. Just don't let other people drive and its not a big deal.

Thats funny, because when we first got our 2004, we thought that the stereo had problems also due to that feature. Well came to find out the stereo was a problem and was replaced after owning the car for 2 months. But the reason of replacing the stereo was a different issue then the differing keyfob/presets. I actually like that feature, it's my wifes car but I do appreciate when I use my fob I can listen to what I had been.

On another note, I have no problem with them getting rid of the power pedals on the '08's. I have them on the '04 we have and have never used them apart from the first week we had the car. I understand that some people appreciate memory seats, but whats the point? Does other vehicles in the class offer that as an option? I haven't bothered to check for that feature.
