Intriguingly Green

From the front page of the Driving section of today's paper, another article on the Volt.
The Chevrolet Volt is one of the most intriguing vehicles to come along in a very long time (fuel cell aside). It promises to deliver acceleration to 96 km/h in 8.5 seconds -- having 273 pound-feet of torque on tap at Rev One certainly helps -- and an average fuel economy of less than seven litres per 100 kilometres. For those who are lucky enough to have a commuting distance less than the electric-only maximum driving range, fuel economy is a moot point. This opens up a potential hurdle: If the driver is only filling the tank once a year, how does he combat stale gasoline?
If only I had that problem!

Re: Intriguingly Green

Funny I was think about this last sentence just the other day. Will we have to drive a certain length of time on ICE + e-motor just to use up what gas is in the tank in order to keep it from going stale?

Maybe keeping the tank at half-full most of the time is the trick. Just drive a little and keep refilling it to half full. Once a week blow out the tank and ICE with a long 100 mi drive? Then refill to half?

Re: Intriguingly Green

The promises are intriguing, whether the car actually lives up to them or not will be a whole other matter.
