The SCCA had a 305 cubic inch engine limitation. The 302 with the 283 stroke with a 327 block was the result. In 1970 they let them use a destroked 350 to hit the 305 limitation, not the anemic small bore 305. They were then able to sell the street cars with the full 350 cubic inches utilizing the same block as the 305ci SCCA legal engines.
If it's a 305, then why is 302 on the air cleaner lid?
