When I saw the prices for the Cobalt, I thought, what the hell? That's way too much money. But then I looked up how much you pay for it's major competitor, the Civic.

Get top-of-the-line comfort, performance and styling with the Civic EX Sedan. In addition to its 1.7-liter, 127-hp VTEC® engine, you'll find a power moonroof with tilt feature, body-colored dual power mirrors and variable intermittent windshield wipers. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) and 15-inch alloy wheels also help to give the EX an added touch of performance engineering.

    Manual Transmission: $17,260.00

Manual Transmission with Front Side Airbags: $17,510.00

    Automatic Transmission: $18,060.00

Automatic Transmission with Front Side Airbags: $18,310.00

That's from Honda.com. Now the Cobalt, at similar price range,

    LT Sedan (available fall 2004)
(in addition to, or in place of, Cobalt LS features)
    Starting at $18,760*
Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission with traction control system
Leather-appointed front bucket seats with heated seat cushions
    Woodgrain interior trim
    Seven-speaker Pioneer premium sound system
Leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls
    Foglamps
Chrome door handles and body-side moldings
    16-inch machined-face aluminum wheels

For 760 dollars more you get leather, a better sound system, a more powerful engine, bigger wheels, heated seats, foglamps...the works. Probably better quality too. :P
I wasn't sure but I think Cheby may indeed have a winner here.

Now the trick is to sell them without the heavy incentives.

    2012 Chevrolet Cruze - 14,350 miles
    2008 Kia Rondo - 41,000 miles
2004 Pontiac GTO - 71,864 miles (gone, but not forgotten)

I think the Cobalt is going to be a MAJOR hit.. Everything I have read about the Cobalt is BETTER than all of it's competition..

It should be a major hit. It's a better car on paper, but will the Honda crowd even look at it? Will the "non-car guy" people consider it?

I sure hope so. Cobalt deserves a fair chance. It's a gem of a car, and I still want one.

One problem, it's not an "Import", so a certain crowd will immediately tune it out.

Blech, next time you post a magazine cover could you pust one where the chick isn't a sack of bones with a set of implants :ninja: Yeah you do have a point about the import scene but with the ECOTEC crushing the imports in the drag scene...I think if marketed right the Cobalt would take off. Right now there is no import compact that can outperform either SRT-4 or the Cobalt SS.

buddy, take it easy... that's mings girlfriend!

we're only guessing at this point, but looks like the cobalt is the right car for the right money. it covers enough ground to appeal to a huge crowd (or will when the other engine is available), and looks as good if not better than the competition. it'll take a few import converts and some word of mouth, but it should take off.

wonder if they designed the car with a future convertible in mind?
It's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.
