Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
I love the big red panic button in the middle of the dash!
That was easy!

Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
Ya, for sure. It's like Lutz says, customer needs are satisfied by a 3 year old off-lease (whatever)... customer desires should only be satisfied by new cars. This car looks like a (smaller) Pontiac vibe. Give me the beat from the concept designs, a fun looking sporty 2-door with sharp edges, projector lights (LEDs on the concept) and good fuel economy.
I assumed this was targeted at the poor (and/or environmentally conscious), but stylish college student or young adult. Most of the "stylish" has been removed. The grill is too low (passive), and the front of the car lacks all the uniqueness of the concept. The concept was a manly small car, like a little pug (dog)... arrogant but tiny. The production version looks marginalized and lacks the "risk" that cutting edge contemporary design requires. I think it will do fine, but nobody is going to be excited to run out and buy it like they were the soltice or sky... but give us the concept and you'll see the same reaction. Think Scion xB. |

Agreed. It seems not many folks are making that distinction - even the newspapers and auto journalists are getting this point wrong. It drives me nuts.

Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
Aside from the strangely tiny guage cluster area, I think it looks pretty good.

Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
That Fiesta has the best looking small-car interior I have ever seen. But, it is a clean, well lit picture and the Beat picture looks like something from that TV show COPS - it's all dark and messy. I guess it's not a fair comparison. Still, apples to apples, that Beat interior doesn't look nearly as nice as the Fiesta's.

"the new ford kicks its ass though"
For the love of God, no it doesnt. That center stack looks like 1998 Sony boom box. Lots of curves, and indentations that serve NO purpose. Aweful. |

Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
Google 'Twingo interior' and 'C1 / 107 interior' to see what else this is going up against. I'm not too worried... they all look kinda cute and fun and young, but none are stunners. Which is normal, because they're amongst the cheapest vehicles on the market. Not sure about the 500 (which starts at 2-3000 euros more than the others, at least in France), but the materials in the others are nothing expectional (though I don't care about that sorta thing).
I suspect the battle the Beat faces isn't a touchy-feely comparison between the HVAC knobs of it and the competition but instead the fact that it has to make up for the sins of the Matiz AND the sins of being what is still a relatively unknown and unproven brand name (Chevrolet) in Europe (at least Western Europe). Basically the problem GM has in North America... it doesn't even register on the radar... forget getting people into the drivers seat to lick and caress the dash!

Re: Chevy Beat: Clearest interior pictures yet!
All it has is a GPS screen that leads you to the nearest Ford dealer so that you can buy a Fiesta and not have to suffer with the horrible Beat interior, and can instead wallow in the luxury and opulence and avant-gardeness that is the Fiesta interior.
