Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

Automotive News is reporting that the Cruze is being set for a late 2011 launch as a 2012....please, someone tell me this is not a lame duck?

Cruze is a very cool looking car, and its a shame that we dont have it here. But weither it comes in early 2010, mid 2010, or December 31, 2010, some of you will not be happy.

If the car was to be realeased tomorrow, it would still be "dated" by the time its actuall debut is. So really what the hell are you talking about?
Corolla is lame duck, horrible quality car that sells tons. Civic is a great car too, but the sedan is boring, and the coupe is alright.
The 3 and Forte are great cars, but cannot match the sales numbers.
Cruze has the look, power train, dealer network, and gas milage to reall give it to the Civic and Corolla.
I think the car looks very exciting, as does its front end. I think its the best part about the car, and its design gives the car a larger-then-it-is look.
I think a lot of you guys need to really step away from the computer sometimes.
Cruze will be a great car. While the 3 is good, there is always going to be something better. So the Cruze will be the new hot ticket next year, then the Civic will take it, then someone else will jump ahead...it goes on and on.
BigAls87Z28,

I think the people who will never really be happy with the Cruze, including me, just want the best for GM. The Cruze is a big step forward for a Chevrolet economy car, no question. But we wanted a segment-buster, and this isn't the rock solid segment competitor we hoped for. It's not bad. It's not average. It may even be pretty good. But I was hoping to see something that would make me think, "yeah, if I owned a Civic and started seeing these on the highway I would regret my purchase".

I realize that's a tough role for the Cruze to fill.... but that's where the General should be going, and it's not.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

But I dont understand your reasoning that it wont?
Looking at the Civic sedan vs the Cruze, I dont understand why the Civic would win outside of its reputation? The Cruze will not outsell the Civic or Corolla as the two of them have worked at this segment for years, and they are for all intents and purposes, the Global Flagships of thier respective brand. You might not be able to get a Camry every where, or an Avalaon, the Lexus is a Toyota elsewhere in the world, but two names that are sold everywhere, for the last 30-40 years...Civic and Corolla.

I dont know what is segment busting in this area. Style? Quality? Performance? Handling? Features? Fuel Economy?
Some would say everything, and with that I say that the Cruze offers all that over the Civic, at least on paper right now.
Cruze isnt going to be beating either of them any time soon. The Cobalt layed the ground work, and its a reason why I think that Chevrolet should keep the Cobalt name, as it builds a reputation of GM's compact car. Cobalt, for all intents and purposes, is a pretty solid car. Its not class leading or get high ranks for quality, but its an overall solid car. The Cruze should be the Cobalt and should move foward on what the Cobalt has erased from Cavi.

The fallacy of your reasoning is that you're considering the 2006 Civic v. the 2011 Cruze. When the Cruze finally graces dealerships with its presence in very late 2010, the next generation Civic will be making the rounds at autoshows and in magazines.

So, yes, the '11 Cruze is fairly competitive with the '06 Civic. Great. The '05 Cobalt was a decent competitor to the '02 Civic. That's the problem with aiming for moving targets.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

Agreed, but as is life. There will always be a better car next year.
At this rate, GM should never put out a car. Its not that the Cruze will launch missing parts.
Its design is pretty up to date and modern.
Its interior looks to be top notch
Its performance and fuel economy should be solid

Camaro is a great car now, and then Mustang will launch next year with this mystical 5.0 engine, and then that iwll be the talk of the town, and then the Camaro will get a Z28, and then Challenger will get a 6.4 Hemi, and then Mustang will come out with something better..

Compact class is a hard class to fight in, and the Cruze is the first car to do so.
I dont think its a lame duck at all. I will say that I wish it was launched here at the same time as the others.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

The exterior styling is as dull plain and boring as a Corolla, Forte, Elantra or Jetta but I don't think it will be a deal killer because thats all you can get from most manufacturers. The interior looks to be upper scale and nice. The base 1.8 doesn't sound too promising and i'm not thrilled about a turbo motor beng the only optional upgrade with but 140 HP which is 15 less than the current 2.2 in the Cobalt. No the two things that will kill this car are GM's usual way over long delay in getting a much talked about product here and the silly name which will only confuse matters even more.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

Any word on why GM takes so long to get a product to market?
This has already been getting hyped up for months and we're still over a year away from launch. Same with the Camaro. I really didn't hear much about the 2010 Mustang, or Challenger until they were imminently launching. The cruze sounds like it's a great car NOW, but who knows in 2 years??

Re: Am I the only one who thinks the Cruze is a lame duck...

I think the car looks pretty good, but could be better. I agree it is a subdued style and lacks and real character, but I would not go as far as to say it looks bad. I think the one thing the car is lacking is a sports model or sporty look. The mazda 3, honda fit, etc. all look somewhat sporty and in the case of the mazda, have a dedicated sports model. I think we need an SS or Sport model for this car to be competitive with the rest that are out there.
