Toyota wants to be as American as apple pie

http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial...26/1070672.asp
DETROIT - As Toyota Motor Corp. prepares to launch a new Tundra early next year, get ready to see the truck at events that reek of Americana: country music concerts, chili cook-offs and high school football games.

The Tundra, Toyota's first true full-size pickup, will be featured in a commercial during the most American of spectacles, the NFL Super Bowl, said Jim Farley, vice president for marketing for Toyota U.S. sales. The heart of the campaign, though, will be reaching customers through community events, Farley said.

Next year, Toyota expects to triple the money it spends on marketing its vehicles directly to consumers.
Toyota has worked out deals to market the new trucks in 84 Lumber and Bass Pro Shops. It recently provided a fleet of courtesy vehicles for use by the Future Farmers of America at the organization's national convention in Indianapolis. And Toyota is preparing to enter NASCAR, a sport that should put the Toyota name in front of hard-core truck buyers each weekend.

Simple, move Toyota's global headquarters to the U.S.A. then it would be American

I really hope it falls just a little too short. So GM knows they must continue to develop their trucks to be as good as possible.

They can try til they're blue in the face, but it ain't gonna work. You can't jus talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk. It's like a NY city dweller trying to come and move into a small southern town. The people may like you, alot, but it ain't gonna change the fact that they are a yankee.

Good thought, but some would complain about that, too! As if all the electronics in our homes are American...not! I think the Tundra will be more of a competitor than ever before, but not quite sure if it will lure many hard core domestic truck buyers. I do think it will be the most successful Tundra yet.

Re: Toyota wants to be as American as apple pie

I think Toyota should become all American.
1. Close down Japan, Inc. HQ, engineering, all factories there, 90% of suppliers, and all other Japanese facilities.
2. Make sure the company gets factionalized, establishing political fiefdoms more interested in personal power than the company's mission.
3. Move the entire operation to the USA. I suggest HQ in W. Virginia. They can rename Toyota the Senator Robert E. By-God Byrd Toyota Motor Company.
4. Invite the UAW into all production and supplier facilities. Sign union contracts with Big-2.5-equivalent pay scales, health benefits, and retirement compensation.
5. Institue an affirmative-action program at Toyota so the company looks like America. This program will apply to all levels, from factory broom operator to the executive suite. By setting an example, Toyota can prove by example to the world that everyone is the same.
6. Imitate certain proven Big-2.5 business strategies, such as keeping some key models virtually unchanged for seven to 10 years, de-contenting most models while raising the price, getting rid of good seats and copying some GM seat designs which were designed in cooperation with the American Chiropractic Association, the American Back Pain Promotion Board, and the American Association of Massage Therapists/Back Pain.
7. Hire completely incompetent ad agencies and devise ads which leave people scratching their heads as to why anyone would pay millions of dollars for such foolishness.
8. Go Toyota, move forward to your All-American, apple pie goal!

Re: Toyota wants to be as American as apple pie

I don't care if Toyota is "all American" or not....if they produce a good car for the money, I will buy it. IF they don't..then I won't buy it. Period.

Besides...some Toyota's are more "all american" than some domestics. And don't bring up "what matters is where the profits go" argument. Bottom line is...when Toyota or Honda sell a car that is produced in the USA, more money stays in the USA than when Chevy Sells a car made outside the USA (take EVERYTHING into consideration...Where the wages go to employees making the car, where taxes go on payroll to employees or taxes on the factory itself...where money goes to pay for electricity..not to mention how many Americans Hold Toyota and Honda stock with some foreigners holding GM or FMC stock).

Why? Most people in this country are happy to be Japan's lapdogs as it is.

They would probably lose their entire home market overnight if they did that! I'm sure the reprocussions would be HUGE in their home country.

Never gonna happen.
