Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
Info on previously reported tailgate issue and new info on a tranny issue. They must be going nuts at HQ in Japan right now...

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
It just can't be, Toyota is the perfect producer of vehicles....must be a GM, Ford, or Dodge designed piece (insert a sarcastic voice when spoken).
I just knew when real truck owners got ahold of that truck the problems would surface. Toyota has never really dealt with real american truck owners and the abuse they dish out by the backhoe load. I bet this is just the first of the transmission issues, I drove one and it felt flimsy to me, fast but flimsy.

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
Yes all mechanical things have issues, but the freackin tailgate falling off or crack and the truch isn't even a year old........show me such a serious issue from any of the big 3 in such a short time.

This is the kind of news that brings on a smile. I don't feel too sorry for the owners of these trucks either.

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
For everybody that saw the tailgate flex videos (comparing F150, 1500 Silverado and Tundra) where Tundra appears to be made of rubber had to know something like this was coming. The bed can't be allowed to flex that much without some major issues.
...there are at least 2 more major warranty issues that will be popping up before too long on the Tundray as well. Don't know if they will be news worthy, but they definately have very strong potential to make the news It does give me a bit of a warm-fuzzy that Toyota could be known as a maker of unreliable trucks

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
That Tailgate issue is going to be huge. Not only does the fact that any substantial weight damages the tailgate become a problem, but if the bare sheetmetal is exposed (even with the smallest crack), I'm predicting rust in a couple of years. Good luck on resale with a rusty tailgate after just 2-3 years.
Oh, and expect a "Customer Service Bulletin" in about 2 years, asking customers to "come in and have a free coffee while Toyota ensures our customer's vehicles are receiving the latest upgrades in quality."

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
Ha I think you doom sayers need to be more worried about Silverado sales being DOWN 1.9% YTD Sierra sales being DOWN 1.6% YTD, and the Tundra sales being UP 57.9%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll let you guys in on a little secret in the whole Pacific Northwest Region there was a total of 6 to 8 Tundras with the camshaft problem. What did Toyota do for these people? They took them out of their Tundras, and gave them new Tundras to drive while they replaced their Tundras with NEW engines, and trannys. Toyota also gave them all free 100,000 ESCs for their Tundras. All trucks are going to have problems it's how the manufacturers deal with the problems thats going to keep the people coming back. I personally think this is why GM, and Ford are having such a bad time now.

You are right about 1 thing. We'll see how Toyota deals with this problem. Will it be the next Engine Sludge saga? We'll see.

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
So there you go Tunda is not a good truck. Toyota should stick with what they do best. Make fuel efficinet high quality cars.

Re: Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues
How funny would it be to see one of the old Toyota ad's where the dude was jumping up and saying Oh what a feeling. Except in this ad he was jumping off the Tundra tailgate and as he went to jump it fell off.
