Toyota Rolls Out Land Cruiser "Invincible"

-- but Not for U.S.
Quote:

LONDON — Toyota introduced a new Land Cruiser "Invincible" trim level on Monday with what it describes as a "higher specification than any other model in the lineup." But Toyota Motor USA spokesman John McCandless said this particular Land Cruiser model is not bound for U.S. customers.

The Land Cruiser Invincible comes with a 3.0-liter D-4D diesel mated to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. It starts at the equivalent of $76,680.

At almost $80,000 it makes the Escalade look like a bargain.

Why? It's not really invincible!

Isn't that the height of hubris, akin to naming an ocean liner Titanic and claiming it unsinkable.

You just know if that Land Cruiser isn't 100% perfect its name will come back to haunt it.

Toyota Land Cruiser Invincible is the highest-spec Toyota you can buy in England. But you can't get it in the U.S...
Isn't it just a Lexus GX470 with a prettier (ahem) face? I believe optioning out a GX in the States gets you the same equipment (sans the diesel option, of course) for about $52,000.

Quote:
The Toyota Land Cruiser Invincible comes with a 3.0-liter diesel or a 4.0-liter V6 and a very high level of amenities including Bluetooth, a rear parking monitor and black wood trim in the cabin...
That's what you get for 80 grand!? Plenty of lesser-priced vehicles offer similar equipment. The Brits cannot be this naive.

I do encourage the audacity, though; anything Toyota does to diminish its reputation is perfectly fine by me.

yea i cant wait to see what fails on this car, if toyota has to name it invincible you just know its going to fall apart the first time you look at it the wrong way.

but seriously, i dont like toyota, but just naming this suv invincible is a big statement, especially with all the quality problems as of late, i hope they put more of an effort into this unlike the tundra

oh and who wants to bet that 98% of these cars will never go offroading, i dont know anyone that pays almost $80k for an offroad car and actually uses it for that...i would assume we would see lots of quality issues if people did though
