Toyota Recalls 418,570 Echos, Priuses over Faulty Engines

Toyotathon Continues: Toyota Recalls 418,570 Echos, Priuses over Faulty Engines

I'm having a hard time keeping all the Toyota recalls straight these past few days...

"TOKYO (AP) - Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it was recalling 418,570 vehicles globally, including some Echo and Prius models sold in the U.S., over a faulty engine part.

The faulty part is the latest in a string of problems requiring recalls by Toyota, raising doubts over whether the automaker can maintain quality standards amid booming sales.

The faulty part could lead to an oil leak within the engine and cause it to stop completely, the statement said. There have been no accidents due to the fault, according to Toyota."

Re: Toyota Recalls 418,570 vehicles

It's actually not a repost, but it isn't necessarily news anymore. Just another Toyota Recall in a long list of Toyota Recalls this year.

It just showed up on MSNBC's Front Page!!! AND it's the same AP article, which mentions the ongoing investigation occurring in Japan for covering-up defects and the latest recall on the Highlanders and Lexuses from a few days ago. It also says "The investigation was another embarrassment for Toyota, whose once impeccable image has been tarnished by a number of recalls." Maybe the shine is coming off a bit.

Let's see 'Dateline' do an expose' on the Toyota execs. hiding re-calls for 8 years, the way they tore in to the Chevy trucks "exploding" with help from a well-placed NBC explosive.

Re: Toyota Recalls 418,570 vehicles

o no not the precius prius...
i wonder if there actually has been a cover-up of the quality defects of toyota... wouldnt suprise me...
I WAS looking into possibly a used toyota or lexus, but at the rate these recalls are coming, imma scratch that offa my list...
and if I was someone in the market for a new car, toyota would def have to be off of my list, i mean who knows, whats next... the paint coming off in the rain? im hoping that they are learning from these recalls, for the sake of the relatively few (compared to GM) american jobs that toyota does provide. however I am getting a feeling that toyota is falling into the footsteps of GM.

can someone add up all the recalls toyota has had since the start of 2006.

EDIT: i added up and got over 2.28 million at least what was on the recalls board

My word toyota recalls are bad ones! They are all safety or major mechanical related. Engine recalls are about as bad for image as safety ones.... so you toyota lovers out there better check your engine!! It could blow!!

I noticed that too... I think of some of the GM recalls I've seen this past year (G-6 recalled to replace a page of the Owner's Manual, trucks recalled for faulty tailgate chains), and they seem to pale in severity to most of these Toyota recalls.

When I saw Prius in it I literally laughed out loud. So now it is possible to hvae bad batteries and an engine that won't run. LOL

Re: Toyota Recalls 418,570 Echos, Priuses over Faulty Engines

The hope must be that the general public will get all of these recalls within a short time frame confused and think of them all as one single recall. Either that or the police investigation in Japan has scared them into doing things faster than they might have otherwise.

Or as a Toyota fan or PR spinmeister would say "They're just making sure their customers get the utmost in service and satisfaction from their reliable, dependable, near-perfectly engineered cars. Toyota, Moving Forward.".

I was thinkign the same thing.. but the recals mentions the cars... Echo, Highlander, RX330, etc. Not the same cars.

But what is interesting though... what Analysts have said over and over again for the past few years... the more common the parts become in Toyotas, the easier it is for a fault part to become a widespread recall.

Sort of the converse of the old adage, "The fancier the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."

Toyota recalls 268,570 cars for faulty sensor

If they were an American company with 100% content I wouldn't buy one, just like the 70's and 80's, they're stuff is just falling apart.

I always thought the Echo was a big pile of horse excrament. I got stuck with one as a rental, and anyone who complained about GM interiors just hasn't ridden in one of these turds!

Now it turns out that the engines are garbage, too.

When it rains, it pours!
