Re: Toyota Mot. Europe sales woes continue: -22.4% - Largest GROUP sales loss for MAY

Maybe we should also be looking at more than just May sales. U.S. light vehicle sales, market share for May

These numbers are YTD ie JAN 2008 thru MAY 2008 and same for 2007.

YTD is .................

..........................2008....2007....5mo.2008 ......5Mo 2007
.............................%Share ...............Units...... .......Units............ % Chg

TOYOTA Group...5.3... ...5.9....... 339,338........ 386,577......... -12.2

TOYOTA............ ....5.1..... 5.7... .....326,746... ......370,011....... -11.7

LEXUS ................. 0.2..... 0.3...........12,592............ 16,566........ -24.0 ( Market share is significantly overstated due to rounding on small numbers)

************************************************** ************************
What this tells us is that in these countries - Lexus sold a total of 12,592 vehicles - in FIVE MONTHS.

I still wonder what did Nissan do. They really don't have much new - they've killed the Primera, which leaves them without a midsize car, in a market where one is rather crucial for a mass-market manufacturer, the Tiida and Qashqai were already there last year, as were the other models IIRC... Either some big discounting or fleet dumping, I guess.

Fiat is doing pretty well, if you compare their numbers with the others. But the real star is Mazda, who is the only Japanese manufacturer to post an INCREASE (also thanks to their return to certain markets after absence, but still).
