Some links with info and more links.

Quote:
Demand for new cars stable over five months.

European demand for new cars decreased in May compared to the same month of last year (-7.8%).

This result was affected by one working day less across the whole region, as well as by a massive increase in fuel prices.

Calculated over five months the market remained stable (-0.7%).

In total, 1,334,081 new passenger cars were registered in Europe* in May.

In Western Europe, markets contracted by 8% to 1,235,314 newly registered passenger vehicles.

Cumulative results from January to May show a milder decrease of 1.5%. Looking at the major markets,

France was the only one to post growth both in its monthly results (+7%) and in its cumulative figures (+5.2%)

The number of new registrations in Germany was slightly lower (-6%) than in May 2007,

although the market is on a stable path, with cumulative results 4.2% higher over the same period last year.

The Spanish and the Italian markets were still on a downward trend, decreasing by 24.3% and 17.6% respectively over the month.

Five months into the year, they recorded 14.3% and 10% fewer registrations compared to the same period in 2007.

Demand for new cars in the UK fell by a modest 3.5% in May, after two months of notable growth, leading to stable cumulative

January – May results (-0.6%).

In the new EU Member States, the decline of 4.2% in new registrations in May contrasted with the

9.8% increase over the last five months.

The Polish market performed better than in 2007, totaling 26,230 new car registrations.

Romania saw its market decrease by 12.2% in May but remained the second most important market of the

new EU Member States with 24,647 new registrations .

Five months into the year, almost all new Member States posted growth.

I'll check -and correct if needed.
Changed the -7.8% for market to - 8.0% - thanks.
****************************************
Update:

I think the difference is the following :

(*) EU27 including Bulgaria, Romania; excluding Malta, Cyprus - which have reported yet plus more.

ie adds two and subtracts two........ and yet to come.

Having said that, some of your numbers appear to be from the one chart and some from the other - like I did with the 7.8% and the 8.0%
************************************************** *******************

Sigh, wait one.
************************************************** ******************
I think I got what happened to your chart -will do next post.

Its worse than it looks for Lexus and maybe for Toyota - 2007 was not a good year for either, but, I think it was unevenly distributed -not sure of all of it except a big fade at the end of '07.

Too bad GM couldn't have done more than outperform the market slightly and Ford unfortunately was off slightly more than the average. But anytime toyoduhs sales are in the tank that is good news as they are way too big compared to other automakers. GM matches them in many ways but that profit differential is huge. I suspect Ford will get better as their new KA and Fiesta are close to launch.

Re: Toyota Mot. Europe sales woes continue: -22.4% - Largest GROUP sales loss for MAY

I haven't looked at the individual stuff current or 'older', but I think the Yaris? is accounting for right around 1/2? of their TOTAL sales in Europe - including Lexus? - maybe just above or below that mark.

Another thing - they first opened up in Europe in 1963 (USA 1958) - look how small their numbers are compared to here in what is now the larger market.

The effect of the unlevel playing field (AMERICA/Japan) and the deficit spending 'created' currency subsidies covers most of the difference - that and our direct payments to literally build their plants - Europe doesn't do that - they're not as easily corrupted to the same degree by Japan INC's double talkin' double doin' 'game'.

Our people can crush them if we get rid of the deficits .
