Re: Toyota FT-86: First Official Photos of Near-Production RWD Sports Coupe, gets Sub

Odd to think that I'd be excited over a Toyota.

The styling is nice enough, but doesn't really call out to me or anything. Still... 200hp + RWD + ~3000lbs = a car I'd take a serious look at.

Re: Toyota FT-86: First Official Photos of Near-Production RWD Sports Coupe, gets Sub

Can we count on a perfomance version with the engine from the WRX STI?

This is essentially a 1er, with out all the bells and whistles, which is fine if you ask me, I want to drive my car, not operate it.

This was what pontiac should have been, a car this size, all the way to a statesman based Bonneville.

Re: Toyota FT-86: First Official Photos of Near-Production RWD Sports Coupe, gets Sub

I like it- quite a bit. I am curious to see the real interior, but the cost should be reasonable, and a rear wheel drive coupe with a Subaru boxer- WRX transplant anyone? I can only imagine what fun it would be to drive. I'd love to see a rear wheel drive coupe with the Cobalt SS powertrain, too. Solstice and Sky? Oh yeah- too bad they are both in divisions already and soon-to-be non-existent.

Fist of all, it is much smaller than the G370Z,
it has a 4 banger
it doesn't have a cult following like the z does

This thing could start at 15k.

Very cool looking! How I wish GM could have made a Chevy or Pontiac on this Subaru platform 5 years ago...

Hey dingus, open your eyes

This car weighs 3,000lbs, thats just as light as the world beating 09 Cobalt SS, and it benefits from RWD.

Difficult to mod, isn't Subaru a big tuner brand, I'm sure there are hundreds of aftermarket parts that will bolt right on.

I can't wait to fry this rice

Well, if it starts at 15k then it'll probably be a huge success.

I didn't realize it was that much smaller than a 370Z.

Remarkably attractive for a Japanese car. Who designed this, an Italian?

I like it, especially the front end. But I liked the 2007 white concept more.

It will most likely weigh less than 3,000 lbs.

The AWD Impreza 2.0R sold outside North America has a curb weight of 1,345 kg (around 2,959 lbs).

The 2.0 liter RWD FT-86 will most likely weigh less because its smaller and is RWD only.
The FT-86 is 10 inches shorter than the Impreza hatchback and is just over 2 inches longer than a Saturn Sky roadster.

I wouldn't be surprised if this car weighs only 2,800 lbs.

If it is around 3000 pounds, I'd like to see the Camaro closer to these dimensions with the same powertrain.

7 pounds per horsepower sound great to anyone???

I like it, the more small rwd coupes there are in the world, the better. I heard that the target weight for this car is 2,500lbs, which would make it a lil rocket. I can't wait to see the awd Subaru version.

I wonder if the FT-86 has space for the AWD system (front half-shafts). It looks like the front wheels were pushed forward (with the low & wide boxer engine between the wheels instead of hanging ahead of the front axle line.

The FT-86 has a very low front, I'm guessing it has a double A-arm (upper & lower link) front suspension.

If there will be an AWD Subaru version, it would most likely have a longer nose like the Impreza since the boxer engine will have to be pushed forward (hang ahead of the front axle line) to make room for the front drive shafts just like in the current Subaru models.

Subaru boxer engine...

X2 Buyers of this car will also likely be conquest buyers who would never buy a Toyota but are looking for a smaller lighter version of the muscle cars.

Can you imagine how good this car will handle being very light weight to begin with and then carrying that weight very low because of the boxer engine. Sweet!

Does every new car made have to be compared to a past car, EVERY time.
