Re: Toyota Considering 3/4" Ton Pickup

Well, looky here. Someone is interested in growing some balls. I laugh at any contractor that would buy a Camryized HD pickup. The day Toyota is knocked on their ass for this one I will throw a block party.

Re: Toyota Considering 3/4" Ton Pickup

GM lost the moxie a long time ago and doesn't have the fire in the belly to get it back.
GM Management and Engineers can do nothing but cower in abject fear of their Toyota counterparts - GM just isn't up to the task anymore.[/quote]

of pickups?? I dont think so! They have that covered just fine

Toyota better use a crystal ball and use chevy and ford future designs for 2015 to even come close in this market.

Re: Toyota Considering 3/4" Ton Pickup

For those of you that think Toyota can't do heavy trucks, I direct you to their Hino division:

http://www.hino.com

One of their engines:

http://www.hino.com/businessinmotion/story_27.php

One of their partners, Allison Transmissions:

http://www.hino.com/partners/story_165.php

So don't be so sure they can't pull this off.

The FORUM attitude apparently has come down to either the American Patriots or the Japanese Kool-Aid drinkers.

Lumped in with the Kool-Aid krew are the Canadians, most of which pretty much dislike EVERYTHING American.

No stereotypes there. And you are very incorrect in your second statement, at least where I am.

You're kind of missing my point, which is if they can produce products like that with their Hino division, I can't see why anyone would think they couldn't make a good HD Tundra.

No, i didnt miss anything. If anybody thinks they can make a HD truck or bigger, and Better, and they will be sold in masses like GM and Ford, Theyre wrong. I havent seen a Hino truck anywere, well maybe a old 80s version that wasnt being used.

20 years ago, they might have said the same thing about luxury and midsized cars...

We all know how that turned out.

not for the pickups though, Theyve been around for 20 years or so and they havent gotten far. I still see enough import trucks during the day. Not counting a dealership that I can count on my hands!

You do realize what you see personally often isn't a good representation of how a product sells?

The DIFFERENCE here,Viv, is that in 1989 most American vehicles were not built very well.(Germans also?)

Toyo has tried the Tundra for how long now?

Move forward 17 years and the quality issues have been resolved.

If anything, with MORE Domestic Trucks and Full-Size SUVs being sold in the past decade (loyalty),and the quality being equal, why would those buyers move to the Japanese?
