which is why I said it was and LOL I don't think that they cut way back on production as much as I think that this is just the way that things ended up with them being so far down. A 6% increase isn't really that big if you ask me esp. when your sales are down by 20-40% as it could have ended up with way because of the vehicles that are down more happen to be the ones that are produced in Japan.

And this also explains why their profit has fallen so much because the models produced in Japan are more profitable due to currency exchange rates.

Mr. Burns,

excluding all other items - yep, Canada is the 51st State. in terms of automotive production

If you prefer, than just consider us 48 -50 additional Provinces - in regards to that same ie automotive production - only..

But where was it engineered?
Manufacturing is important, but engineering is even more so.

Re: Toyota Camry tops this year's Cars.com American-Made Index

There is too much opportunity to skew the outcome with the data being used. Keep it simple:
Country of final assembly + % of domestic part content (by value) = Ranking

In the case of being judged American made, that's a formula I can respect. I don't care how many you sold because that is more a product of marketing and should have no bearing.

Re: Toyota Camry tops this year's Cars.com American-Made Index

It's stupid that it's sales based.

But the Camry is a good car.....and it proves that American workers can build great products and that American car companies are still doing something wrong.

That said, when the Camry has a higher parts content (I know it's pretty high) than every other car on the list, then it deserves the number 1 spot.

This bull**** has finally showed up in Toyota advertising.

In her darkest hour, Toyota City turns to her pals at cars.com.

Yea I was wondering the same thing. I remember when I bought mine it had something like 85-85% US parts content, and at the the time was the highest of any vehicle sold int he US. I'm pretty sure the parts content hasn't changed since then, but they sure are selling a lot less of them.

Are you sure it's better to do it by value rather than weight? This is something we deal with in the construction industry. If you have an insanely expensive, but very small part of the whole construction foreign-made, is that better or worse than having the most massive pieces (steel, frame, engine, etc.) be foreign? I mean when you think about shipping & labor costs, much of it is based on weight, rather than the cost of the goods being transported. Just a thought, not sure whether it would hurt or help the domestic's rankings.
