Re: Tough times for Jaguar Dealers

There are standalone Jag dealers? What a stupidity! I thought there were only Jag-Land Rover - it only makes sense that way.

Anyway - poor Jag dealers and poor Jaguar themselves. Ford has been doing great with Mazda, Volvo and LR, but somehow they were always a bit lost with Jag. I hope Bibiana knows what she's doing - at least she acknowledges the exact mistakes Jag made.

Re: Tough times for Jaguar Dealers

They're right about rushing the X-Type to market too fast and delivering it half-baked. They should have studied this more. I personally like the X-Type -- thought I think it should have more unique styling and greater appeal than just being a shrunken XJ in appearance. But I can certainly see why the critics disliked it.

Their making the same mistake with the Zephyr. On the other hand, its going to be hard to drag down Lincoln, simply because it does not have much prestige to begin with.

Re: Tough times for Jaguar Dealers

At least here in Europe, the outside looks of the X-Type weren't a problem - people wanted a Jag that looked like a Jag and that's what they got. The problem is once you step inside you get a poor imitation of Jag interior that looks even worse than the Mondeo itself (Mondeo actually has a nice interior). The X-Type also wasn't that amusing to drive, so the automotive press derided it as an "expensive Mondeo" (just as if the A4 wasn't an expensive Passat) and so the story ended before it began. FWD 2.0 didn't help either.

Seriously, I never heard anybody complaining about the X-Type's look. A lot of people I know have issues with the S-Type, even if it's some throwback to old Jags, but most people I know really love how Jag skillfully applied their styling cues to a much smaller vehicle. I know a person who actually bought one just because of the great looks and despite being perfectly aware of all deficiencies.

Ford's plan is to drag Lincoln down, as much as I hate it. They seem to be doing quite well with it, but had they made it as sleek as the concept (and perhaps RWD, on the DEW98), they wouldn't have to step down - they'd rather step up and kick Caddy's, well, buttocks.

In San Francisco it's "British Motors." So every British car is sold there. Ironically, Infiniti is also sold there.

Jaguar product is en route. Poor standalone Jaguar dealers.
I'd buy an XJ8 Super 8 Portfolio from one of them if I could.

Why not? It worked for the Lincoln Zephyr (called MKZ from next year on)

Re: Tough times for Jaguar Dealers

Jaguar has alot of problems. They have been mismanaged...they are unclear of their mission, unfocused and without direction. It's going to take something major to bring them back into contention. Jaguar really is one of those ''lost'' brands. They have been a drag to Ford financially. The new XK is nice and well done, but lacking in distinction. I don't know about Jag. I just hope Ford can sort out their problems....

Re: Tough times for Jaguar Dealers

I guess they are pinning their hopes on the new S-type...it better be good, if Jag is to survive.

There are 4000 orders in already for the new XK. The XKR is suppose to be unveiled later this year at an auto show, Geneva maybe?

That's not going to help much. According to Automotive News, total Jaguar sales last year were about 30,000 cars. That's just half of its peak in 2002 of just over 60,000.

They'll need to better than that... can't imagine more people wanting the new Taurus Coupe though
