Cool SVO Badge To Return For 2010 Ford Mustang

Supposedly it'll get the EcoBoost four-cylinder that'll give a lighter 'stang 300 HP:

Re: SVO Badge To Return For 2010 Ford Mustang

Somehow they are gunna cut some 300-400lbs off an already cheap chassis?
Why not just remake the fox body again? Strut front end, live axle rear, small and light and will crumple in any crash test?

I'm assuming a lot of that weight savings will come from the 2.0L engine, along with some very basic weight-saving techniques for the SVO... lightweight hood, trunk lid, roof, and such.

The 2010 Mustang is already going to come in around 100-150 lbs lighter than the 2005-2009 model. The old iron-block 4.0L V6 is being replaced by an aluminum one in the V6 model. The current V6 model weighs around 3300 lbs or so, and this will drop the weight even further.

Even the GT500 will get an aluminum engine, which will reduce some of its current outrageous piggery...

Re: SVO Badge To Return For 2010 Ford Mustang

Umm, 500 lbs lighter then a gt500 is still about 3500 lbs, My company has a normal 2007 mustang and it weighed 3800 lbs, add extra weight for iron block, supercharger, extra body weight, and its probably more then 3950.

I would say this is going to be about 3600-3700 lbs, the s197 is NOT lightweight... and the next one is gonna be even heavier.

you aren't even close on the weight for a v6 car, its still 3700 lbs... trust me, they are all pigs. Even the sn95 v6 cars weighed a good bit more then 3300 lbs

Wrong.

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...ive/index.html

Mustang GT: 3450

Mustang V6: 3300

Add 50 lbs for an automatic model, as well as any stupid weight-adding features (convertible, Shaker 1000, etc...)

They said 500 lbs less than the NORMAL Mustang, not the GT500. Or are you saying Ford is lying about the weight of their own car?

The GT500 DOES weigh 3950 lbs, which makes it a pig. This is due to the HUGE iron block engine and a much beefier suspension.

Wow, I am glad you don't have any bias.

So how much does the "cheap chassis" cost? Surely you must know if you are throwing around such statements.

I think Big Al was referring to the Mustang's "Cheap-O" chassis. Meaning the live rear axle is much cheaper and not as advanced as an independent suspension in say a CAMARO!

Re: SVO Badge To Return For 2010 Ford Mustang

I love this idea! Keep in mind it isn't replacing the V8, but offering a new alternative. People like me who like light, repsonsive cars would be very interested in a ~3000 lb Mustang with a 300 hp turbo four. Particularly if it could get pretty decent FE when not flogged (turbos drink fuel just like larger engines when you are on them!)

It will be very interesting to see if such a car can overcome it's more primitive chassis compared to what appears to be a much heavier Camaro and a very heavy Challenger. I love the notion of the better rear suspension on those cars, but my own experience says that a 500 lb lighter car will more than make up any handling deficit ... and be more enjoyable to drive. We shall see!

Folks used to mod the Ford turbo 2.3 into very respectable power level ... this fellow has his modded turbo coupe into the 12s in the quarter (see http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...rbo_coupe.html)

Nothing you can say to Camaro fans will convince them that the Camaro will end up heavier than the Mustang, so just wait until the specs hit.

I am sorry but that is way off. Have you put one on a scale? I have, our convertible GT weighs almost 4100 lbs. We have scales here, @ the drag strip, and other shops locally. They weigh alot more then you think, aand that write up is WAY off.
