Spied: 2007 Toyota Tundra

"Here’s one big reason General Motors broke into double-time to bring its all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra fullsize pickups to market 13 weeks ahead of schedule: the 2007 Toyota Tundra.

Judging by these spy photos, taken by alert AutoWeek reader Tim Yale in Orange, California, the next-gen full-scale Tundra is holding to the production form revealed earlier this year at the Chicago auto show (“Bigger is badder,” Feb. 20). The truck is clearly well on the road to a market introduction by January, where it would have competed directly with GM’s launch if the General hadn’t hustled to get its trucks to market first.

Tundra arrives in this Double Cab configuration (replacing Access Cab) with small front-hinged rear access doors. Regular cabs and fullsize four-door cabs come later. The truck is powered by a 5.7-liter, 350-hp, 350-lb-ft V8 linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. A 4.7-liter V8 and a 4.0-liter V6 also will be offered."

A 4.7 and a 5.7? Good to see they are not copying anyone--like Dodge.

Yeah right. I'am sorry but this is a repost. I remember those pig faced pics in another thread a couple days ago.

The website did say that it was revealed at an earlier autoshow. This is a spy shot of the porduction model compared to the "concept" model.

Re: Spied: 2007 Toyota Tundra

Its a very close call between the Chevrolet and the Ford. They can keep the Toyota. Too silvery for me. Thought the screen in the Chevrolet puts it at the top for me. They are looking to the future.

Re: Spied: 2007 Toyota Tundra

I like the Silverado's work-truck interior. I wish the transition between center stack and the passenger side dash would flow a bit better, but it's still a nice truck dash regardless.

Ford's is OK... it's too boxy. I guess it's OK for a truck, but Ford tried a bit too hard on that industrial look.

The Tundra's is OK as well. It definitely offers something new and different instead of the same old same old.

It looks nice (the seat not the dash), but I have absolutely no idea how you can judge whether you'll like it better than the others without actually sitting in them. I mean, thigh support is a comfort (aka feel) thing, not a looks thing.

Toyota's been offering a 4.7 V8 in its large SUVs and the Tundra for a long time now. That engine is not new at all.

And is a 5.7 liter displacement that surprising? GM used to have a 5.7, and now they use 5.3 and 60. Dodge uses 5.7. Ford uses 5.4. The Titan uses 5.6. The 350/350 figure doesn't mimic the Hemi, and it's a DOHC engine.

I hope the new Silverado/Sierra kicks its behind. But I'm not betting the farm on it.
