True, but not true. Doesn't include D+D and gas guzzler, but with those base car ends up $49,995. The way I expect most will be sold they'll order the Technology group ($7500, leather, Nav, etc), and stripes ($475) and end up $57,970. The Track pack would be $1000 less than Technology package (can't get both).
The R will be $49995+13,500 for the R package, +$3000 for the Electronics package, +475 for stripes making it $66,970 the way I think most will sell. That said, I assumed the R would be very limited and near non existent, like the Leguna Seca or Previous SVT R models, but nothing in the suggested order guides or videos warns of this, so I'm questioning if they'll be actually building a reasonable quantity of R models.
Considering that the Gen6 SS is outlapping the Gen5 1LE, I'd like to see how the GT350 stacks up on a road course. With that said, this has got to be making GM rethink the Z/28's price structure.
$50k is the price, not $47k. 57.5k loaded makes it priced like the last gen Zl1 IIRC. I doubt they will fly off the lots, but it's a decent price so we'll see some. Hopefully for Fords sake it's faster than a SS in a straight line and the SS w/MRC in a track or it will be extremely embarrassing.
Chevrolet could have followed suit, but instead raised the stakes with the Z/28, which wowed folks with its track prowess, especially for such a heavy car.
Now Ford has answered the Z with the GT350. Is it a direct answer to the Z, or has Ford taken another road like how Chevrolet did with the Z? Remains to be seen, but seems like a direct answer with a possible discount (figuratively speaking) in price.
We know Chevrolet has been working on something. We don't know if it'll be a Z/28 or not (Ford likes to mix it up, as we've seen with Bullitt/Mach I/etc.) but with a word-class chassis and a tried-and-true V-8, I don't think Chevrolet fans will be disappointed with what Chevrolet comes up with next.
So they basically replaced the Boss with entry level pricing and challenged the Z/28 on the high end.
It might no be a bad idea for the Camaro - produce an entry level Z/28, which would replace the 1LE and produce a hard core Z/28 on the high end like the 5th gen.
Hoping for an upgrade LT1 with a LS6 style upgrade to 500hp on 91 octane and via the z06 fuel system, 540hp on E85. Since it's basically race gas for cheap, would be a great fit for a "race" car.
Or, how about some 32 valve heads, like they experimented with on the LS engines (as well as 24 valve), assuming it fits in the Gen6 z/28, ATS-V+ and a C7.
