They both fit.
CORRECT.
Name brand association will result in a Equus failure in this market.

Whatever they do, yes, lose the hood ornament.
A 60K Hyundai? Well, if this were 1970 and someone mentioned a super lux toyota.....

I'll bet they settle in at 51, fully loaded, with a base of 49.

Strangely though, I think both cars look pretty cool. VW in the Audi-like elegance that borders on boring, and the Equus, at least in the renderings, looks awesome even though it's derivative.

People have short memories and forget that not too long ago no-one would have put Toyota and Luxury together either. Hyundai have come a long way in a much shorter time frame than the Japanese car makers and to dismiss their latest offerings out of hand may be foolish.
After all that is what the Big 3 did for so long and look where that got them.

I love the Phaeton. Very classy looking car. And it was the first to introduce the flippy vents that now populate the Jaguar XF.

But it's still a mere VW. OK... their marketing campaign sucked too.

Perhaps you can consider ejfx the 'counterpoint' to those vocal consumers who in fact refuse to consider -say- a new Buick because of a Chevette from 30 years ago, yet welcome a supposed 'super lux' hyundai just because they managed to go from late night monologue synonym for 'complete garbage' to mediocre mainstream shorter than the japanese did.
Perhaps he IS willing to consider a new Buick, yet is demanding the same degree of time & track record to re-consider hyundai- like about the same 30 year period. Let's check in with him in 2030, hmmm?

Who's against balance; anyone?

I could swear I saw one yesterday here in Tampa in a parking lot, unless there is a current Hyundai with a very similar nose.

So you're saying that that those like ejfx have to be biased solely to cancel others who are also biased in the opposite direction? That's a load of crap.

Just be objective people. If a car really is as good as the price suggests, then give it some credit. If it isn't, then flame it. If nobody's driven it, then hold judgement.

Who would drop $50K+ on a Hyundai? There is such a thing as overstepping your bounds. I think Hyundai is about to find that out very soon with this Lexus clone...
Funny.....

Hyundai is the fastest growing brand in the U.S.
They know what they are doing.

Nobody pays anywhere close to MSRP for Hyundais.

Their current quality rivals the best cars built (they rank #4 on J.D. Power's latest quality ratings).
Why not sell a Lexus competitor when their quality ratings already rival them?

It really costs them nothing to start carrying a car ALREADY in production in their domestic market.
Depending on their sales targets -- they probably will do fine.

Just to put this in perspective - imagine you have $60,000 and you want to buy a luxury V8 with all the trimmins. Where ya gonna go!?!?! *crickets chirp at Hyundai dealerships*

I'd say "Phaeton" except that would be an insult to the Phaeton, which is a classy ride despite the pedestrian badge.
This thing is ugly and will fail miserably. Yikes.

I don't have the sales figures in front of me. Is anyone actually buying the Genesis, vera cruz and Azera?

I live in import land NJ and sometimes travel to import land California, and I never see any of those on the road.

I do see a lot of elantras and sonatas.
