REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000
REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000
![]() According to an anonymous source at Hyundai, buyers in the U.S. will get their first crack at the Hyundai Equus sedan beginning next July, with a cost of entry somewhere south of $60,000. The Genesis-based sedan, which stretches a little over seven inches longer than Hyundai's first attempt at entry-level luxury, is available in Korea with either the Genesis' 3.8-liter V6 or 4.6-liter V8. However, Stateside buyers will only be able to purchase the bent-eight model when sales begin next summer. Hyundai's primary aim with the Equus is to compete with the similarly priced Lexus LS460 ($64,700), while offering more luxury amenities including reclining rear seats, massagers and LCD displays. According to Rick Case, the owner of six Hyundai dealerships in North America, "It won't be a volume model for us. It will be a halo car for the brand." If you want to scope out the Korean-market Equus before sales begin next year, 100 sedans are currently available for evaluation at dealerships across the country. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/r...y-2010-priced/

Bargin? Try Bargain.
![]() Hyundai Sales Rep: Our new Equus costs under $60,000! Isn't that great? Customer: Yeah! How much does it cost? Hyundai Sales Rep: $59,999. Sheesh.

By "somewhere south of $60,000", I hope they are saying around $30K...
Who would drop $50K+ on a Hyundai? There is such a thing as overstepping your bounds. I think Hyundai is about to find that out very soon with this Lexus clone... |

I applaud Hyundai for having the confidence in trying to do this, but their whole marketing strategy sucks. Cars like the Genesis and Genesis coupe, and the Equus should be removed from the Hyundai lineup and marketed under a premium brand name.
On the lower end, get rid of the overlap with Kia. Kia should be bargain basement product, while Hyundai should be mainstream.

Just to put it into perspective people... the Eqqus is Hyundai's answer to the S-Class.
So.... Where is Cadillac's response? All this time, new GM is dickering about the future of Cadillac's full sized luxury cars, Hyundai is doing a full charge into the US market. Tread carefully GM.... tread VERY carefully!!! Your Epsilon II DTS might have its work cut out for it.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I refuse to call this a Luxury car...Hyundai just hasnt earned enough of my respect...they have a long way to go...
to me its just a car that cost around $60,000 I will be embarrassed for the people that get tricked into one!

Re: REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000
I'm just wondering who they think will buy this car. At $60k, there are a lot of other options, like well optioned 5ers, A6s and E-classes. Granted, those are smaller cars, but at the same time, I have difficulty believing that 7-series/A8/S-class/LS intenders will be looking for "a deal" on a similar car that doesn't have a prestige badge. It's just a very different sandbox than the one the Genesis is playing in. I can imagine that Hyundai sees this car as a stepping stone to bigger things, but I can't help but think it could be their VW Phaeton.

I'm doing a crossword puzzle. What's a 7-letter word for Equus?
P_H_A_E_T_O_N F_A_I_L_U_R_E They both fit. |

Re: REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000
Funny, Buick needs to be consolidated to a three-vehicle strategy, with only two of those three being competitive, yet there's room for Hyundai to continue to offer original names and expand upscale with some fairly competent vehicles. Buick cannot do a proper Park Avenue or a new Riviera here in the U.S., yet Genesis spawns a coupe and sedan, and now the Equus is coming to the U.S. to top the Genesis sedan! Absolutely frustrating.
Detroit absolutely deserves whatever fate it brings upon itself. |

Besides, US sales would just be gravy since it wasn't initially intended for the US market; Hyundai would be happy w/ sales in the 1k-1,500 range yearly. Too bad for you then that industry insiders would disagree w/ you. |
