I share your opinion. As tough as the recession has been perhaps the one positive to come out of it is a better appreciation of the N.A.based auto industry. Certainly the products, especially the newer models from Ford and GM, are now worthy of a look. I think we also have a better appreciation of the importance of domestic manufacturing. Lose that and we will be totally lost.

I have seen several on the road now (I live near a Ford plant) and I really don't see much that is attractive about the car. The SHO is better but it's still looks very bloated and bulky.

Good for Ford. Even more reason GM needs to rush the new Impala.

Re: Re-designed Taurus unexpectedly popular in California

Buy lets remeber that the Five Hundred and even the 2007+ Taurus wasnt a horrilbe car. They are very reliable, safe, and have that huge truck. Thats about as exciting as it was though.

The '10 Taurus even keeps the same base powertrain, so that says that Ford had the right bones, they just needed it to be ALOT more stylish.

here the commercial

as a bonus here one of a Taurus vs Lexus, maybe some Lexus buyers checked an eye on the Taurus as well.

California is the most competitive auto market in the country and probably the world. You have to bring your A-Game if you are going to make it there. Until 2008, GM's A-Game wouldn't even get field time on last year's Lions team. You know, the team that went 0-16...
...FINALLY someone talking sense on this subject...and don't forget the original Taurus was huge out here too. The culture here is unique and highly discerning when it comes to personal transportation and reminds me of Tokyo in the sense of choices of distinctive vehicles. Because of the distances we drive and the time we spend in insane traffic here in SoCal we we don't waste our money on crap (OK we buy a lot of Priuses too but at least it is green, recyclable crap). The 2nd gen Taurus had an interior only children accustomed to Fisher-Price could love and seemed assembled by them too and as such was only popular with the fleet buyers. Finally, a Ford sedan that looks and drives as good as an Audi again!!!

Re: Re-designed Taurus unexpectedly popular in California

I think by avoiding bankruptcy and having some solid new models, Ford has created an image that makes it OK for import-lovers to like American now.

Re: Re-designed Taurus unexpectedly popular in California

Saw one driving on base yesterday (which, coincidentally, matches the number of new Camaros I have seen on the road) it was black with polished rims. Very sharp, stylish car.

While I believe the article, I drove by Galpin Ford this evening and they had about 15 Tauruses up front... I don't call that flying...
