Quality Issues Should Stall Nissan's Plan
By Ian Rowley

http://yahoo.businessweek.com/global...725_130890.htm

Critics think CEO Ghosn should fix Nissan's problems before he chases GM. Sales are slack at home as well as in the U.S.

Knock off the grandiose deal-making and keep your eyes laser-focused on Nissan. That pretty much sums up the sentiment of most analysts disturbed by the deteriorating numbers at Japan's second biggest auto maker. Morgan Stanley recently downgraded Nissan's stock, while J.P. Morgan this month trimmed Nissan earnings forecasts. . . .

with their decreased sales, stalling revitalization plan, and GM's increasing profitable turnaround plan thats ahead of schedule, I hope GM is able to get out of the woods and stay independent.

I agree also, it looks like everything should go the way it should!

Is Nissan Japan's second largest automaker? Honda might have retained that title despite Nissan's recent growth.

Personally, I think they should postpone the plan indefinitely.

This is one great reason to avoid linking Nissan with GM. GM is getting better and I don't want Nissan holding them back...

Another article explaining (in great detail) why N/R is a bad deal for GM. I hope they listen.

My thought exactly. I have a hard time seeing Nissan as larger than Honda, but in the global market I may be mistaken. Anyone have solid numbers???

And I keep saying to people, domestics spent three decades destroying their consumer perception while the Japanese spent the same time improving theirs. You're not going to right that ship overnight (or in a year or two).

Nissan is definitely bigger than Honda in Japan in terms of marketshare. They've been #2 for as long as I can remember. Not sure about worldwide.

And GM is considering a linkup with them? No way. We dnn't want you Nissan. We're doing fine by ourselves.

Nissan is way bigger than Honda. In fact Hyundai is bigger than Honda. I think Nissan is 5th or 6th in terms of global sales behind Chrysler and maybe VW. Ask Automotive News.
