Re: Official: Porsche 911 Facelift

Porsche designer = easiest job ever.

"Hey, Hans, time for a 911 facelift."

"Ja, Ja. No time. Getting ready for Oktoberfest so let's just say we did a facelift!"

"Genius, Hans. Call the photographers and off to the pub we go until next year."

This iteration, no change at all. Just a claim of a change. Awesome.

Re: Official: Porsche 911 Facelift

I'd rather Porsche come back out with a revised 928. 911's have almost always made me snooze. Except for a few years in the '80s with the early C4's, the Corvette has always been a better car in my eyes.

Of course there is the conversion to put a 350 into older 911's...

Did they change something?
With Vettes at least it's easy to tell one generation from another.

Tail lights look...cheap? I dont like that little kick up that they do.
Front end looks like trash. The intergrated blinkers in the bumper looked like they were tacked on.
Not a fan, the current 911 looks great.

Exterior updates are minor, new wheels, airdam, LED taillights etc.
The real big news is the new Direct Injection engines and Dual clutch transmission.

3.6 liter flat-6 now makes 345 HP (+20 HP)
3.8 liter flat-6 now makes 385 HP (+30 HP)

Another new feature is the 7-speed "Porsche Doppel Kupplungen" or "PDK", its Porsche's new dual-clutch transmission. The PDK replaces the old Tiptronic S.

2009 911 Carrera PDK 0-60 mph 4.5 sec (4.3 sec with Sports Chrono Package Plus)
2009 911 Carrera S PDK 0-60 mph 4.3 sec (4.1 sec with Sports Chrono Package Plus)
Top speed of the 2009 Carrera S is now 186 mph (300 km/h) vs the previous version's 182 mph (manual) and 177 mph (Tiptronic S)

For comparison:
2008 911 Carrera Tiptronic S 0-60 mph 5.2 sec
2008 911 Carrera S Tiptronic S 0-60 mph 5.0 sec

Looks great. I love 911's.

Here is the old model for people who are blind :

The front updates are less noticeable, but the split vents in the bumper are no more and are integrated with the turn signals.

The taillights curve upward on the inner bottom corners, and the bumper no longer has those extensions.

Looks like they copied the C5 ZO6 wheels. I think we'll see a lot of blue show cars this year its the next hot color in Europe.

Re: Official: Porsche 911 Facelift

I've never gotten the fascination with 911s. Were I to buy a foreign sports car a Ferrari would be at the top of the list. Of all the Porsches, only the GT is of any interest to me.

But to each their own. But I would love to comprehend why people are so enamoured with the 911 stylistically. It makes no sense to me.

After seeing a couple of Ferraris burst into flames...
I'd rather have a Porsche.

For me, the reason I like the 911's design is also the same reason I like the Corvette's design.
Even if it looks modern, it still captures the same spirit as its classic predecessors.

They took a page out of the Cadillac XLR handbook, "Don't change anything."

I'm sure the engine upgrades are top notch though.
